My favorite part of our retreat was gathering by the campfire to sit and talk, share stories and make smores. The sense of peace and contentment were unrivaled.  I often feel the same way when I am able to sit outside at our fire pit with family and friends. I loved it. It was during the summer, so it kept me busy and enjoying the outdoors. I learned to swim, did lots of different crafts and got physical activity, like dancing and sports. (The sports, I did not like participating in as much). My husband and I love the outdoors and it is one of the things that keep us strong. We have always taken our 3 daughters (teenagers now) camping since they were babies and it is still their favorite vacation...even over Disney! They love the freedom they have to explore with no one else around them, free to talk in the open about whatever they want. My younger daughters even camp in the backyard with the neighborhood kids. I loved to swim, but learned how to swim farther and deeper and take more risks. I loved arts and crafts, talent show ( with goofy skits), the inside jokes and "camp" talk ( bug juice, ghost stories, s'mores). I loved getting "care packages" from my mom- filled with cookies, candy, and sunscreen. I loved the camp store too. But my favorite thing was being outside with friends and exploring. It was a place to be creative, imaginative, resourceful, silly, determined. I unfortunately got heat stroke and they wouldn’t let me go back the second week 🤦‍♀️ I really think this shaped my experience with the outdoors though because since I am not very “outdoorsy” despite how hard I try to be! (Except at the beach I love everything beach)! I do remember a few songs like Boom Chicka Boom. I have to say those summer month were the best time in my life! I so enjoyed working with the campers and interacting with the staff. I think I was just a homebody. I did love my neighborhood day camp. I remember how fun the crafts were and playing sports with the kids. The best times were just running wild in the woods with friends.
