Students complete a Book Review. It is important for teacher to have a wall in classroom for book covers of both Shared Reading and Interactive Read Aloud books so students can choose what book to write about. The task is for students to create a commercial on their favorite book to excite the kindergartens about the books they will read in first grade. Teacher model with a book most students will not choose with the Book Review graphic organizer. Teacher review elements of Book Review with topic. beginning, middle, end and reasons.
Day 2- Students receive no teacher support.

In week 20, the students are writing a personal narrative. They first start out with comparing 2 books that they have previously read as a class by pointing out the what they have in common, which is that they contain characters, settings, and events. Throughout the week, the teacher models each step and students use graphic organizers, add details, use checklists and partners to create their personal narrative. By the end of the week, the finished product is a personal narrative.
