Pure in ones mind often goes to the word white. The narrative that white is regal and clean (and that European history is the most interesting and put together, that other countries are dirty and unevolved) contributes to a lot of problems in the conservative view of minorities and other countries. If you take virginity for an example, it is a made up thing to keep women from expressing sexuality and taking charge of their bodies. Women are made to seem dirty if they aren't pure and innocent in this way, this is usually to benifit men.
