something i'd like to get changed is the stigma around feminism. i know when people find out someone is a feminist, their reaction is "oh, so they're one of those people". what does this mean? is being a feminist a bad thing? from talking to my brother, i've found out the common opinion on feminism is that it's "hating men", or misandry. this is completely false, and though i've tried to explain how feminism means equality there's a continuous negative opinion on feminists. feminism is not hating men and wanting women to take over, on the contrary, everyone should be a feminist. the misinformation being spread is harmful to the equality movement and educating more people about the true goals of feminism is something that should be changed.

"she's dressed like a slut!" no, you just think like a rapist!! i think our generation should focus on respecting consent and teaching men to respect women instead of telling women to dress more modestly. this is important to me because men are always telling women they're overreacting but we just want to feel safe. sexual harrasment is more common and serious than you think

An issue I would like to see changed is the city design and urban planning in US cities. The current US road system is heavily reliant on cars and trucks. Walking places isn't a option for many people who live in large suburbs as shops, services, and other buildings are too far away. The only type of public transport that is common in most cities are busses and maybe a metro or tram system. Rethinking the US road layout is especially important now with the current trucker shortage in the US. The transportation of freight and goods in the US is incredibly dependent on trucks and the interstate system, which was chosen over a better US railroad system because of lobbying by car companies in the 50s. -Vincent Luc

parents just don't understand. now hear me out, when i go to my mom to rant, or vent, or talk about how my soccer game/practice went, it always somehow turns into a lecture. instead of her just listening, she starts yelling at me about how it shouldn't bother me or how it doesn't concern me. but hears that thing, THAT'S NOT THE POINT. i just need to get these words out and its really difficult to do so when i feel like no one is listening to me. every time i try to ask her to just listen for once, she tells me she is when in reality what i'm saying goes in through one ear and out the other. so, i give up when clearly its not happening and i go call or text a friend because at least they'll listen to me. i know other people who struggle with parents who aren't willing to listen to them. this is something that needs to change. parents need to understand that we just need someone to listen to us, especially after the past 2 years we've all had.

An issue I would like to tackle is racial discrimination against certain minorities in this community. The current situation of Racism shows that even to this day, people are being discriminated because of their skin color/ethnicity. Some of the current movements like Black Lives Matter and Stop AAPI Hate, proves that present day racism gets out of hand because of the number of discriminative incidents towards certain people. For example, an officer brutally kneeled on George Floyd's neck in a arrest of suspecting Floyd of using a counterfeit $20 bill at a store, a act of police brutality and racism. I want to pursue this topic specifically because I believe that this goal of putting a stop to these hate crimes is certainly attainable. - Jayden Pham

I want to see change in the foster care system / cps because when these kids are abused and neglected when they grow up they become what they were treated like and the cycle continues. I wish that better background checks would be used on the families that foster parent and that cps workers would really care and listen when foster kids talk and look out for them.

Although there are many issues in the world, one that I would like to see changed for the better is racism. Racism is one of the bigger problems in this world. It is one of the reasons why the world is divided and unequal. Throughout my life, I experienced many situations where me and my family or other people were judged because of our skin color. One situation happened when we were walking past a person while trying to get back to our hotel room. He started yelling racial slurs at my dad and words that I don't want to talk about here. Although this was already bad, this wasn't the first time we came across someone like that. But overall, it makes me angry and disappointed at the people who judge people because of their skin color. Just because people have different skin colors doesn't mean that they are different. It's how good they are at heart that matters...

From my point of view, one of the biggest things that drives people apart is the inability to understand one another. Some people, unfortunately are incredibly selfish. It could be because they genuinely don't understand other people, or it could be because they choose not to. From my experiences, in High School teenagers naturally make assumptions about me.
In most cases, people who are "introverted", "shy", or "standoffish" have a large personality behind just what they look like. Just because a person doesn't socialize a lot, doesn't mean that they don't want to.

I think if people were to stop and think before they speak, if people were to imagine what it would be like in someone else's shoes, if people were to want to know both sides of a story, the world would be a better place. That's why I think just trying to understand someone before you make assumptions about them is so important. Especially in a world where the fight for equality is half the battle.

From my own experiences, people often make stupid decisions based on their emotions. Many times one second is all it takes for someone to go from making a mistake, to stopping, and looking at the situation before acting on it. The term "think before you speak" is something I think we all take for granted at times. Of course, no one is perfect. We are all human, we all make mistakes, we all go through ups and downs. That's why it's not your mistakes in life that define who you are, but what you do about them.

Being born with traditional parents, I tend to have two identities, at home I act a certain way in front of my family and do the things to make me fit into their views. But when I am out, like in school, I tend to be a bit more myself but still try to find a way to worm myself into my role outside of my house of being chill and quiet. With my two identities, I find it hard to figure out my identity as an Asian American. Am I the person who tries to follow their parents expectations or am I the person who quiet with a relaxing demeanor? With these identities I switch them on and off, as quickly as I leave the car when my parents drop me off for school and as I enter my house. -Yvonne Nguyen

Before the numbers dropped the rate was 7.32 per 100,000 teens committing suicide. Usually now a days teens would use their free times on their phones and in their rooms or talking with friends, but some other choose to be alone in their rooms with nothing but them, their thoughts, and their music. But I know that sometimes when people do that, it feels as if its not even their thoughts, because at one point their just chilling in their room. But the next they are wondering if they made the right choices in life, wondering whether or not to go left or right in life, feeling like they are about to hit their dead end. and for most people they get up and walk out of their room with the thoughts just lingering in their mind, and for others, they cant get rid of it because it follows them wherever they go, and when they want to feel good about themselves but that emptiness inside just keeps growing till they finally hit their dead end on purpose. except they did it because they thought it will finally silence the pain, suffering and silence, but it didn't, and never will because even if they think it silenced their pain, it really just passed it to someone else.-Wyatt Ockwell

McDonalds, obesity is almost twice more common than it was in the mid 19 hundreds. With all the aggressive food marketing ads, billboards, and more it makes you want to think twice and maybe try this or that. The population of McDonald has almost doubled since it came out, and in most states tripled. it is almost very common there is at least one McDonald on every street and some only 5 minutes away from each other. - markus volkovskiy

something i'd like to see change is pushing aside body image issues. telling people that they need to eat a salad or eat a burger because in your eyes they're to skinny or to overweight isn't ok. you have no right to tell anyone what to eat or what not to eat. as long as they're eating and are taking care of themselves. you never know what someone is going through and judging what they're eating and not eating can be really damaging because it could have a serious effect on them. body dysmorphia, eds, etc. are serious things that I think some people think are just hating how you look when you bloated and things like that when that's not how it is. it's always constantly worrying about how your body looks or if you can see your ribs through this shirt. or even looking in the mirror as your changing and just feeling straight-up disgusted with yourself. even when people tell you "your body is perfect." "ugh I'm so jealous of your waist." it puts a lot of pressure to keep that beauty standard regardless of if people are hyping you up or bringing you down everyone has their struggles and to you, you could look at someone and be like that's my ideal body type and to them, they could say the same thing about you while hating their own body. and sometimes people take others' bodies for granted like asking for nudes and to have sexual relations with someone for their own benefit. and feeling like you just wanted because of your body is a really horrible feeling never getting told "you look very pretty today" or "your beautiful" it's just "your ass looked so good today" "show me your tits" its a really horrible feeling to feel like the only reason a guy talks to you is to get in your pants and not to just get to know the real you. feeling like you have to stay fit to meet guys' standards for you and society's standards is so hard to deal with mentally because of how draining it is to be someone who sometimes your really not because you want to impress others.

They are scared of wearing even a crop top due to "men" / un educated people saying something about the way they are dressed. This is important because I want everyone to feel happy and not feel like there is no one to talk to about whatever that's going on. I feel like this is something that is not talked about as much as other topics. I will do this by having a list for benefiting mental health and explaining why everyone needs this. Yea that's basically it.

I would like to tackle racism because racism has gotten worse since George Floyd died by the hands of a police officer, and many more innocent people of color. This is something that really matters to me because this can affect many young women's mental health and confidence as they grow, it can even lead to eating disorders. It is a topic many women can relate too, even myself. It makes me upset seeing young women care about how they look and wanting to have the beauty standards at a young age already
- Genesis Hernandez

In this day and age we see a lot of beauty standards for girls on social media. Skinny but not anorexic, toned but not muscular and being pretty without makeup and etc. There is a huge problem in these unrealistic beauty standard that has been advertised in every platform in social media. There is a difference between posting your body to show body positivity and posting your body to show others this is what you want to be like, if you don't look a certain way you are not beautiful. I chose this topic because there needs to be a change, young girls deprive themselves to look a certain way to be as perceived as beautiful.

A problem between children and their parents are parents having EXTREMELY high expectations of their children. I have experience with my mom and dad yelling at me every time I come home because I didn't get a 10/10 on a test, but instead i got a 8/10. Not one conversation with my dad goes well, we always start arguing and i'm always being blamed for a small mistake. While struggling with depression and having to act like i'm perfectly fine our parents being really hard on us hurts really bad. "I wish you were like your cousin, she always has good grades and she actually does what she's supposed to." is what i'm told. Why can't you just appreciate what i've/can achieve(d)

Misogyny On the Internet (gaming community)

Something I would like to see changed is how women are viewed online, more specifically the gaming community. They are not taken seriously, ridiculed, and even hated just because of their gender. They are always put down and the stereotypes around them are insane. "Girls suck at games" "Go back to the kitchen" "Girls can't play games/this game" "Are you playing on your boyfriend's account?" Misogyny is bad enough everywhere else it has to plague the gaming industry too? It's not just some boys/men that say these things. Companies have many things targeted at women. From pink headsets with cat ears to pink chairs, and even in games. This is very toxic and contributes to gender roles/stereotypes set by society. It is a large issue that needs to be taken care of as it affects most if not all women that play online games. Many times girls are too scared to even talk into the microphone, much less even continue playing their favorite game.
