Seen in the recent increase in immigration, western societies feel a greater need to protect their barriers.
R For example, the 9/11 terrorist attack in New York brought huge developments within border control whereby 'tightning the borders' became a priority in reducing societies anxieties.
C However, in many cases the risks presented are often exagerated by the media, creating a moral panic about 'threats' caused by globalisation.
L Nevertheless, global 'risk consciousness' is one way in which globalisation leads to crime as these insecuiries lead to hate crimes.
