I am no longer teaching first grade. I can refer back to the class if I need any information from it. Many of my students are on different levels. I am in the process of creating many assignments. I would use moving posts to the top so that I could keep the most important posts that students use most at the top. An example of this is when I post Prodigy math game so students can access it easily. Posting to multiple classes is helpful because many of my classes do the same thing it it helps with time. I really liked learning about the topics. This will be extremely useful as I plan to put all homework, cw, tests, quizzes, weeklies, etc on my classroom so students can access them easily. If they are in a topic then it will be so much easier for students to find what they need each marking period.

For each of the three topics you watched and tried in your Google Classroom, post how you would use it and why?Assign Posts to Specific Students: I would use it when I want to differentiate a lesson- Sometimes I want to assign a more difficult version of an assignment to my Spanish-Speaking students than what I assign to the non-Spanish Speaking Students: this way they would be using their knowledge in writing an essay, for example, vs. writing individual sentences.Saving Posts as a Draft and Assigning Draft Post: Saving an assignment as a draft would be helpful because sometimes, when preparing an assignment, I want to make sure that all of the parts are included before assigning that assignment.Archive an Old Class and Recover an Archived Class: The Dashboard with the windows with classes are too busy with all of the old classes crowding it. It is nice to be able to archive old classes so that only the current classes are available on the Dashboard. You can access them if necessary in the future to look up info, etc.

I. would use assign to individual students to enable different students to have different assignments.

I would use Posting a Question before and after a video or lesson to access prior knowledge and to assess learning that happened after the lesson was complete.

I would use Creating Topics to help myself stay organized and keep my kids in the correct place for their daily work or to help parents navigate the learning topics we are working on.

I would use Creating Topics to organize assignments for me as well as students. Students and parents could see the topic and view their past assignments for upcoming assessments.
I would use Posting a question for pre and post knowledge questions. A initial question could be posted before an assignment, video, and the same question could be used after to determine obtained knowledge.
I would use Assigning a post to differentiate instruction. Students can be grouped by ability level and assignments assigned accordingly.

I love the idea of using the question for a quick pre-assessment!

Anonymous 13d
I like how questions can give kids an online space to share what they know- especially the babblers, scholars, and ranters. As long as they are civil I dont have to restrict their air time. I used the online questions for this with an honors group before and it gave kids a platform that needed it.

1. REUSE POST- After three years of rewriting posts every time I make a mistake, now I know how to use this REUSE feature to correct a post that didnt get the document settings correct.
2. TOPICS- I havent used this much, Not sure if I want to stay chronological or sort. I think I will sort by units or by MP.
3. DRAFT- I wonder if I can reuse a post but save it as a draft? I think as I plan for the year, I may build some assignments early and add those to the feed as drafts.

1. Assigning posts to specific students: This could be helpful in PIG for the public policy paper each student has a different topic so you could post a question to each student based on their topic.
2. Moving Posts to the top of the Stream: this could be used if you post something long term (like directions for a project) and then want the students to go back and look at it again you could move it to the top for easier access
3. Assigning a question: this could be used with anything really.. the question could be simple like a warm-up activity that all the students respond to or more of a discussion question that they could respond to and then respond to eachother

I would use Creating Topics and Organizing Topic to help organize materials by module. Great and easy way to sort through the pieces for students, parents, myself and other staff members. I see this saving me lots of time!

I would use Posting a Question instead of using KWL charts. This is a quicker and easier way to access what they know and then what they have learned.

I would use Assign Posts to Specific Students as a way to make sure I am asking those higher level critical thinking questions. This is also a fantastic way to differentiate for the variety of student levels within a classroom.

Moving a Post to the top of my Stream will help me to prioritize work with students and also assure that any instruction/re-instruction in the class (related to that post) is immediately and easily accessible for all students.

Posting to Multiple Classes is just a great clerical/management option for teachers to minimize time wasted on copying assignments to individual classes.

Posting a Question is a great way to collect quick formative assessment data from students that will help guide my planning and instruction.

1.I would use assign to individual students because I could differentiate assignments for students based on their specific learning styles or goals for my students with IEPs.
2. I would save as a draft and allow other teachers I work with to edit as needed before posting.
3. I would create topics to organize each topic we discuss in pre-k and keep all assignments and resources for specific topics in their own locations. This will be easier for other teachers to find and access as well.

I would use the create a topic to organize all of my assignments by the particular central book we are studying in reading or by unit of study in writing.

I would use assign to individual students for differentiation in any subject area. I could also use it to assign questions and journal responses to different reading groups.

Finally I can use archive classes to keep my Google Classroom uncluttered of classes from previous years.

2. I would post a question in google classroom to help start off a topic, as an icebreaker. I could also post a question at the end of a particular topic to check for understanding or ask questions to check for deeper understanding of a particular topic.
3. I would create topics and organize by topics to help students clearly find posts so that there is no miscommunication about what we are working on or what assignments need to be completed

1. I would use assign post to specific student beause this like a perfect way to differentiate the lesson. I have a lot of ELLs and this would be very benficial.
2. Archiving a classroom would be useful to save a class that you have taught but won't be teaching the next school year. The possibility exists you may teach it again. Also, I never want to get rid of something that was useful.
3. Saving as a draft would be great to use to plan ahead or store your emergency lesson plans for those unexpected life situations.

1. Archive Classes- I archive all of my classes at the end of the school year and then sometimes I Restore them so that I can reuse assignemnts from them.
2. Reuse Assignemnts-When I co-teach a class or teach the same prep with a teacher, we create a googleclassroom for both of us to use. THen I create a seperate class for my students. I Re-Use assignments from the teacher classroom to pist on my student classroom.
3. Assigning Individual Assignments-In my AP class I sometimes have underclassmen who are "auditing the class." I will often create seperate assignments for them that the rest of the class cannot see so that their work is differentiated and more grade appropriate.

1. I would use the Assign Posts to Specific Students to differentiate my lesson which is especially important in math. This will be easier to do once I build several different assignments on a given topic.
2. I would use Saving Posts as a Draft when I am trying to get ahead and develop future lessons. I can save my work as a draft and continue working on it as I see how my class is progressing and what things I need to focus on or amend.
3. I can see where Using Posts in Multiple Classrooms will be very beneficial in math when I have two or more groups covering the same topic....whether it is the same course or not.

Using Google Classroom as a Primary Teacher by Archiving an Old Class, Assigning a Post, & Saving Posts as Drafts:

For starters, I will archive my old class. I am no longer teaching first grade. I can refer back to the class if I need any information from it. Many of my students are on different levels. I am in the process of creating many assignments. I will save these assignments as drafts. This will be a convenient way to differentiate instruction. When a certain student is ready for the assignment, I can go into the draft and assign it at that time. I can also differentiate my instructional posts by only selecting certain students to complete an assign at a particular time.

Saving a draft would allow me to create multiple postings at once and then post them as they become necessary for students to complete and due dates.

Creating topics, will help when some topics are weighted differently based on expectations. Individual vs. Group

1) I have used and will continue to archive classes I no longer teach. I've actually reopened a class I archived in order to share it with another teacher who had never taught the course. They were able to use many of my lessons.

2) I would move a post to the top of the thread if I had assigned a bunch of work for students, but for some reason, they needed a reminder of where there project was in the thread.

3) I like the idea of adding topics to the assignments. I have not done this and I don't often search for assignments, since they are all in my google drive, but I like that it organizes the assignments on the left hand side of the classroom feed.

These were helpful because:
1. I often wondered if I could assign just a few students different assignments if they were absent or if they needed additional assistance or even to differentiate an assignment.
2. I love the topics to stay organized and allow for a flow of material that is understandable by me as well as the students.

1. I would use Archive/Recover an old class because I am an intervention/prevention teacher so I have a lot of different grades and groups. This will help me stay organized and also help me easily look back to what I was working on the year before.
2. I would use assign to specific students frequently. Within my intervention groups we do a lot of group work. This will help students be able to collaborate and work together on their assignment.
3. The assign posts to multiple classrooms would be very helpful. Some of my groups complete the same assignments so instead of me having to recreate the assignment, I can just utilize this feature.

I watched the video on moving posts to the top, posting to multiple classes, and creating topics for posts. I find these useful for many reasons.

I would use Post a Question as a thought provoking bell work or a quick write for my students. I could add a video for them to watch and ask a question about their opinion or about the video.
I would use Creating Topics and Organizing by Topic to help me and my students stay organized. 1. Topics
Are the "topics" a new feature because I am so weirdly excited about it! One of my little pet peeves with google classroom is the lack of organization with the stream. I will use this all the time now.
2. Assigning Post to Specific Students.
I love this feature. I use it ALL the time being a CT teacher in the class. I can assign my kids the the modified version and no ones knows. I can also add extra resources for for them without everyone knowing. It's great! By far my favorite feature.
3. Posting a question.
You can use this is so many ways. Checks for understanding or just to build engagement outside of class hours. You can use it as a warm up or ticket out the door. You can use it to see what prior knowledge they have. You can post a video before class so they are walking in with some prior knowledge. The possibilities are endless.

1. Assigning Post to specific students.
This is the perfect way to individualize instruction. There are always limits on how much differentiation one can do but this makes it more manageable.
2. Posting a question.
since I teach US. History, this is the perfect tool for open ended short answer questions and bell work in which students can reply to each other.
3. Creating Topic and organizing by topic.
This is probably on of the most important tools to keep students organized. It will also allow them to see an outline of each unit

Assigning Posts to Different Students
-I would uses this feature in google classroom when I want to differentiate the assignments, as well as assigning partner our group assignments. This would make feedback easier and all students in the group have access.
      2 .Archive and Old Class
I would use this feature when I want to keep an old class to use some of the material for a new class. This could also be archived in order to see what changes need to be made for the next class.
      3. Reuse Post
I would use this feature if I had a recurring assignment such as a daily reflection, or a homework assignment. It will be easier to reuse the original and update any new information.

I love that you can assign to specific students. It will help me to differentiate assignments for my students. it will also be helpful with jigsaws as only certain students will need to explore each topic.

Reusing a post is great because i can have an assignment on a certain topic for all my 7th grade classes. By reusing the post i can add or subtract part of a task if a class is behind or ahead of the others.

Schedule/Save Draft - This will enable me to plan out entire units at once when I have the time, and then publish each post the night before I plan to use it. It will also give me something to glance at when students inevitably ask, "What are we doing next class? And the class after that? And the one after that?"

Using Posts in Multiple Classes - This will save me a ton of time, as I will only have to create the post once, and then I can share it with as many classes as I need.

Creating Topics/Organizing by Topic - One of my favorite aspects of digitizing my curriculum is how easy it makes it to reuse resources in the future. Topics will allow me to search my existing resources more easily, and hopefully streamline future unit planning. Of course, I still have to accurately tag the topics, which I could see myself eventually slacking on.

I'm not real sure I will be using this Google Classroom for my second graders but I do see me using it to build a relationship with my co-workers. I would set up a classroom and invite colleagues who were interested in joining a conversation.
Posting a Question: I would post questions to get insight how to teach a certain skill or strategy that I might know how to do.
Assign to individual students: This I would use for differentiation for some students that are ready to use Google Classroom but are still on different learning levels.
PBJ: Love this video! It gave me a real sight for how to deliver my instructions especially to my second graders. I would use the video also for my students to watch for several reasons: how to write clear directions and how to edit their work.
