Cory Maxson.
Cory Maxson is the son of Troy and Rose Maxson in the movie Fences. He was a respectful teenager to his parents and was very ambitious for his dreams to play football. He confronted his dad one time about him always holding him back and just the way his dad acted and his dad got furious and hit him. After that Cory left home and joined the Marines.

I sympathize Cory greatly in this play. I sympathize Cory because of what he goes through with is dad. Cory has many weaknesses and strengths in this play too. His biggest weakness is probably letting his dad get to him and take over what he wants to do. His dad was always trying to prevent him from doing the things he loved in worry that he will be better then him. His biggest strength would be being able to stand up to his dad when he had to. Whether it was because he was yelling and arguing with his mom, or preventing him from football and stuff.

I think Bruises by Lewis Capaldi can relate to Cory. I think it relates to Cory because of the relationship he has with his dad. Even though the song is about someone he was in an actual relationship with, Corys relationship with his dad fits into this. Corys dad was not the ideal dad, he was always drinking, arguing with his mom over something, or being upset with Cory over nothing. He just wanted to feel loved by his dad and make him happy. His dad left bruises on him sometimes, including the last time Cory saw him before he passed. So since hes gone he now misses everything and wants him back deep down inside. Cory and his dad are practically nothing to each other, like how Lewis feels in the song, but without him everything is different.

A poem that relates to Cory.

This poem relates to Cory because it talks about how even though something can be bad, it gets better eventually. In the poem it says "Life can seem an endless maze, The twists and turns, lulls and delays, But things always fall into place... In good time." I feel like Cory relates to this stanza because growing up everything he went though probably seemed like it was never ending, but after he left home and got his life together on his own everything fell into place. Along with that, the poem also says "Life can be tough, there's no doubt, But hope is the thing we can't do without. Right things with joy will come about... In good time." I think Cory can relate to this stanza because he had hope and courage to stand up to his dad after everything got tough with him and the family.

" Cory done went and got recruited by a college football team."
"Come on, Pop! I got to practice. I can’t work after school and play football too. The team needs me. That’s what Coach Zellman say ."
" How come you ain’t never liked me?"
" Just ’cause you didn’t have a chance! You just scared I’m gonna be better than you, that’s all."

Cory is very ambitious with wanting to get somewhere with football. He is a very good player and has a chance to go big with it and his dad ruined it for him. Jumping into that, Cory was courageous to stand up to his dad for doing what he did and the way he acts. Hes just scared that he will surpass him with everything. He also was courageous enough to call him out for not ever liking him because of the way he acts, knowing the consequences he can get into.

I think this picture relates to Cory. This picture relates to Cory because it is showing strength. Cory has so much more strength then what everyone thinks. He played football(and was super good at it), he worked, he stood up to his drunk dad multiple times, he accepted his sister even with the situation, and he went into the marines. With all of that, he faced all of his own problems with being upset and hurt and fought throw it. He was so strong through it all and his strength was doubted. So when I look at this picture I see Cory and his strength.

Theme of Fences

The theme of Fences would be family the understanding of race then.

"It’s my job. It’s my re- sponsibility! You understand that? A man got to take care of his family. You live in my house . . . sleep your behind on my bedclothes . . . fill you belly up with my food . . . ’cause you my son."
"Afraid to let the white man see him carry it home."

The theme in Fences is about family and understanding race issues then. The first quote goes along with the theme of family. Even though Cory sometimes feels like they are a complete family, truly that is what Troy is trying his best to do. Cory sees him angry and drunk often but on the other side of him, all he does is work his behind off to give Cory what he needs. The second quote explains how Troy sees racial issues in this time. He thinks they are extremely bad and he gets treated terribly because of the color of his skin. In the play, Rose tries to explain to him when he is talking to Cory about football and baseball that the times have changed, but he doesn't want to accept that. He feels as if since he is black he is less of a person as to everyone else.

Theme of A Raisin in the Sun

The theme of A Raisin in the Sun would be family.

"Yeah. Well—what I mean is that we come from people who had a lot of pride. I mean—we are very proud people. And that’s my sister over there and she’s going to be a doctor—and we are very proud—"

The theme of A Raisin in the Sun is about family. I think it is about family because of how much each character cares about each other in the family. From Walter and Ruth, to Walters mom and Benetha... it all comes back to family. This quote helps support my theme because it is showing how proud Walter is of his family. Someone is trying to put them down and criticize them but he stands up for them and won't let it happen.

Compare and contrast

In comparison to the two plays were the husbands. Both Walter and Troy betrayed their families in the play. Walter took money from his mom that was needed for their family to do what they wanted and gave it all away. It was supposed to be used for his sisters college and for himself to get a liquor license. He betrayed his mothers trust and let down his family. To go along with that, Troy had an affair with his wife. Not only did he have an affair, he had a baby with the girl and then asked his wife to take care of it. He betrayed his wife and she lost everything for him after that.

Troy and Walter are also a reason why the two plays contrast. Going along with how they both betrayed their family, Walter came back and tried to fix everything and Troy didn't. They both loved their families, yes, but Troy didn't really care and love for his family as much as Walter seemed to. After Walter messed up, he tried making it up to his mom as much as he could and he put his family first and got them the house his mom wanted. Troy just kinda up and left after he messed up.
