In order to accomplish this, British operatives were dropped into France in order to connect many of the smaller resistance cells. As well as this, Charles de Gaulle had used British broadcast in order to rally many of the French to the movement. Through secret messages that would be deciphered by French Resistance members, they would coordinate sabotage operations, dismantling railroads, tearing up roads, & turning to many methods of rendering many factories that had been in use inoperable. This is what prompted the construction of the Atlantic Wall. French workers were used to construct all massive wall of machine guns, artillery, mines, and traps that were designed to prevent a possible Allied invasion. However, Hitler himself played a huge role in the failure of the Atlantic Wall. He held most of the German tanks reserves in France and did sent very few tanks to support the wall once the Allies had invaded. Hitler's spies also fed the German army false information which led to heavier defenses being diverted to the wrong location. Hitler also order bombings over London rather than the Allied offensive.
