Liza Donnelly is the one who drew this amazing cartoon. All her work of art is related to something specific about the world, about a global issue. In this case, discrimination and prejudicial treatment to others. In the Ted Talks , Donnelly gave us information about her perspective of the world and about all the rules we have to follow each day to fit in the society. With this , she demonstrated the problems we have nowadays.

Generally, all her drawings are referred to men, but in this case, the audience the author had in mind when drafting the cartoon are traditional women who always follow rules and are structured.

Liza Donnelly draw two women, one is the saleswoman of the store who is extremely thin and the other is the customer who wants to buy a dress and asks for help. Literally , they are in a store because the woman wants to buy clothes but she suffers discrimination.
In the middle, there is a message bubble, where the tall woman is speaking to the blond where she is telling her about the size of the staff.
As I mentioned before, the body posture and the gesture of both of them conveys us with more information about each other. If you look carefully to the other hand , the way is long and straight, which tell us that the woman is strong and it makes her feel superior which symbolize her power and strength. In addition, what they wear in that portrayal tell us so much, they tell us what a sense of style they have, what culture they follow, their personality .They show us at least one thing about the person wearing them. The woman on the right side is more elegant than the other, because she is wearing a fancy red dress and the one which is on the left is wearing casual clothes, I mean a Streetwear Clothing.
Furthermore, their facial gesture , conveys countless emotions without saying lots of words. ...In this case , they demonstrate sadness and disgust.
Liza Donnelly only chooses two to represent women in general and also to give an example of women´s daily life when they want to buy something in a store where they feel discrimination from others.

The orange dress that the woman is hanging is symbolic because the author wanted to exaggerate the size of it to call the viewer's attention. Also, doing that, gives importance to the dress and not to others sing, that's a way to center the audience's eyes into that object. Moreover, the saleswoman position demonstrates her look of grim disgust and displeasure.

They are in a store. The setting is crucial in this drawing because it helps us understand the meaning of the scene, and to know why the shopkeeper is doing that. If the background was not presented , the cartoon wouldn't be coherent, so thanks to the surrounding, it creates a mood and had a symbolic value in the context of the caricature. The room is decorated in a fanciful way and we can see everything clearly. In my opinion, the use of lighting of cold tones, represent the client emotion on that occasion , for example we can see unhappiness in her face.

It says ”Yes , it's big.But so are you “which is trying to describe the customer in a negative way saying that she is as big as the dress.

In addition, the artist technique is
presented on the exaggerated size of the element included, for example, in this
cartoon dress is extremely big ,for the viewers to focus only on the most
important part of the image.
Another thing I noticed, is the presence of
aquarelle technique in most of her drawings.

The artist used a variety of humor technique such as exaggeration , labelling, symbolism , analogy, parody and satire. For example, as i mentioned before, she compared the dress with the size of the woman´s body, this is an analogy because it is a comparison in which a thing is compared with another thing that is quite different from it. Labelling is present in the phrase, she was describing the customer by saying those words. This cartoon, criticize some recent actions of an issue in a comical way which this one is well represented.

Donnelly’s cartoons are the best kind of funny, sly, smart, and right on the
money. They are a great social commentary as well as great fun.
Liza often steps out from behind her drawing table to make this world not just a
funnier place, but a better one too. The artist´s intention is to make us realize that we
are living in a world full of rules that we have to follow for at least to be accepted as
part of the society. Sometimes we think that everything is written on a paper telling
us how we have to be, but I believe that you are the only person who can break
them. This will help you be the one you are. BE YOURSELF.
