An example of the inequality and Prejudice in "The Outsiders" is commonly mentioned throughout the book, the Greasers usually have a harder time in court than the Soc's mostly due to their reputation as lower class and more commonly criminals, Dally mentions this when he is talking with Johnny and Ponyboy arguing against them turning themselves in, mentioning,"Us greasers get it worse than anyone else"(Hinton 87)

Another more clear example of inequality is the equitable well being, it is commonly referenced throughout the book that the Socs have more in material wealth, they have big houses and, "Tuff cars" as fancy cars were called back then putting the greasers below the Socs in terms of economic social class

Along with this the Soc's being well ahead of the Greasers in court and in material wealth, they are also well ahead in public opinion, before the greasers and Socs big rumble, one of the Greasers mentions that even if they win, the Soc's will have all the breaks, because the public likes them

Inequality, while extreme here, is not the main point in this story, equality is, the first main point of this is when Ponyboy meets Cherry, a girl from the very social group he despised, Socs, who both come to like each other, despite supposedly being rivals

Randy is also another example of a Soc Ponyboy could relate to. Initially Randy and Ponyboy could never relate and rather despise each other especially after Randy and Bob Jumped Ponyboy and Johnny and Johnny stabbed Bob. But then, after the fire, Randy wanted to meet with Ponyboy, and initially doubted himself for being willing to help the kids in the fire Ponyboy helped, to which Ponyboy replied," Maybe you would have done the same thing, maybe a friend of yours wouldn't have. Its the individual(not the group)"(Hinton) 115Initially saying maybe Randy would have saved the kids too if he was in the scenario, it's not about the social class, it's about the person
