Growth Mindset: One's ability to believe that their skills can be developed through hard work, strategies, and input from others.

Explanation: I could not come up with a good vocabulary word for this word wall and then I was like, "hey, the term 'growth mindset' would be nice to add." Since the beginning of the school year, we were told to have a growth mindset because it better helps our mind develop. Believing that you can develop your mind as long as you put in the work, helps. Irony tends to commonly be used in our society for humor. It's interesting to see the various forms and the situations in which it is utilized. I chose the device called double entendre because I saw an amusing Tik Tok about it the other day. Previously, I never knew what the term meant- but it sounded fancy and it intrigued me. The video was explaining how a Frank Ocean song had a lyric that fell under the definition of a double entendre. It is rather inappropriate, so please be advised. From the song Novacane by Frank Ocean, he sung "Brain like berkeley". This meant the person he was having romantic relations with was intelligent. It also meant that their oral performance was excellent similar to Berkeley's academic record. I enjoyed the song Novacane thoroughly before learning this. To discriminate is to find clear differences between. This word stood out to me because it is one of the causes of conflict in the stories we are analyzing and critiquing. Specifically In "By Any Other Name," By Rama Rau, the teachers of the predominantly white school find it necessary to separate the indian kids from the white kids. They also deem it fit to treat them differently to the point that even such small children know they are somehow "different" and get confused in their identity. You should answer the question of how and why to supports your claim. Your explanation should be twice as long as your evidence. DICTION: an author's choice of words in their writing

Diction can be everywhere in an author's writing, and it can be interpreted differently to each reader. Some words to one reader can have a different effect to another, which is why diction is so varied. An example of diction would be this quote from Santha Rama Rau's memoir "By Any Other Name": "'Come along,' she said, frowning slightly. 'What's your name, dear?' 'I don't know,' I said finally" (23). An aha moment is letting the reader know that the character is having a moment where he/she has an understandable turning point in their life. It could also mean something that will affect them in the future. I chose the aha moment because it doesn't only have to happen to a character in a story; The reader can experience an aha moment also. Self Reflection- when a reader connects to the writing piece and describes how they felt reading this and why they felt that way.

For example: “When he brought home his horns and hides my mother said get rid of them” (Glancy lines 11-13). As I was reading this, I felt upset for the father because the mom completely disrespected him. He was trying to bring his culture into their new lifestyle and she told him to get rid of it... When the writer includes a self reflection on the text, it allows the audience to agree with the writer and understand why they wrote what they wrote based off how they felt on that specific part.
