This gallery reveals the conservation process required to restore the painting and, in so doing, explores an aspect of museum work that is rarely made public. 
This Treatment required more than 540 hours of work. The treatment entailed extreme patience and precision. As a result, the portrait was successfully stabilized and its appearance has improved dramatically.
