He has forged numerous famous paintings in his life. He not only studied the history of European art for several years but also did thorough research on genre, brush strokes, age, source of pigments of the original works, even the author's lifestyle, the mood of the painting and so on. It was not until they forged the painting of Heinrich Campendonk that the forgery crime finally came to light. The painting, labeled 1914, was found to have used a "titanium dioxide" pigment that only appeared in 1916.

On the left is the photo of how the painting looked AFTER restoration when it came back from a “professional” Russian restorer in the Los Angeles area not long ago! IT DIDN’T LOOK ANYTHING LIKE THEIR GRANDMOTHER! As you might imagine, the family was crushed, as they thought the original, cherished oil painting of their dear grandmother was damaged beyond repair and lost forever. On the right is our after-restoration photo of the ancestral portrait, AFTER all the previous “restoration” was removed and the original portrait was recuperated. You should have seen the owner’s/family’s faces!

Art reproduction, otherwise known as art replicas, fine art reproductions, reproduction oil paintings, art copies, are just that – they are copies of usually well-known paintings that are hand-painted by a professional artist.

Paintings can be somewhat similar in subject as long as it is clear that they are different from other another, each painting is a one of a kind original painting. If however the artist is painting, not printing, the same painting over and over again essentially he is creating multiple copies of the same image or an edition.

The intention of a forger is to deceive the viewer, but there are several legitimate reasons for an artist to copy the work of another artist.
