Hi all, My name is Deniz. I'm an overseas-educated international dietitian with 4 years of experience in the oncology area. I moved to the UK 2 years ago. I'm currently a dietetic assistant at Clatterbridge Cancer Centre.

I have a passion for helping cancer patients in their long journeys. I was a Volunteer coordinator for 5 years at Cancer Survivor Association in Turkey. After I moved here I become a volunteer as a telephone support buddy at Macmillan Cancer Charity. Professionally, I designed a project with Europadonna Turkey Association which is funded by Sanofi named ''Well Being in Cancer and Beyond'' training which continues 6 weeks for each group who is diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. We arranged separate sessions with the physiotherapist and dietitian working with each group each week. We had 8 groups, 4 of them are on treatment and 4 of them are recently finished treatment. It was a great experience to see the differences and how can be effective for both phases in their cancer journey.

Also, recently I completed my Master's degree thesis on the quality of life of cancer patients. It is challenging but rewarding to see how the systems work in different countries. My perspective is getting wider every day. It's so fascinating to integrate my previous experience with existing knowledge.

In my current role, in addition, to my daily workload, we are completing pre-assessment for Head&Neck patients and muscle screenings before and after their treatments to see have they are getting on sarcopenia and malnutrition status. On this project we are working with Abbott Nutrition, our dietetic team and John Moores University.

Recent researches show that prehabilitation could improve their quality of life, and decrease hospitalization. It's a great opportunity to learn more specific qualifications for better service.

I am looking forward to this module and am so excited to complete it from a multidisciplinary perspective with all of you!

Hi Guys!!
My name is Ruby - I am an Oncology Physiotherapist in Clatterbridge Cancer Centre, based in Liverpool. Before this role, I worked within a large acute teaching trust so it's been a big but positive change coming into the world of Oncology!
It's been great reading everyone's discussions and experience on here!

I'm really excited to see what new ideas this module brings and how I can hopefully implement them in the service we offer. I work closely with Natalie (OT), also completing the module, who posted about us starting a CAR-T prehab service, so I'd love for this module to help us prepare the service and allow us to really optimise the patient experience. :)

Similar to others, making sure I've enough time to complete this along side full time work will be the biggest challenge but I'm sure it'll be worth it!

Looking forward to working with you all :)

I worked on cancer research and teaching for many years in higher education before being a physio -- after my research data revealed that the exercise group demonstrated the best outcome against T2DM comparing to medications.

Hi all! My name is Joe. I grew up in SW London but have since swapped the chaos for a quieter area of Surrey! My job role is a Clinical Specilialist Physiotherapist in Prehabilitation.

In Nov 2022, I started a pilot prehab service with an Anaesthetic Consultant and our Therapies Lead and as of April 2024, we gained full funding for our service. My role has been and continues to be building out our service and maximising our offering across NW Surrey. Our approach has been fairly unorthodox to say the least but we're ticking along well! I am doing this module for lots of reasons but noticeably to understand the oncology space in more detail, be up to date on the latest research surrounding prehab and learn more about the practicalities of prehab/rehab pathways within oncology through my peers' experiences.

My "worry" as such is that my prehab service is not Oncology specific and I don't have a great depth of experience working with Oncology patients so this is something I am very keen to learn more about in detail!

See you all soon!

I'm a temporary funded Macmillan UGI specialist dietitian but have been working in oncology for over 10 years but work Part time to look after the kids. I work mainly in the early intervention stage so was always keen to further expand my knowledge in Prehabilitation and rehabilitation. We are in the early stages of introducing Prehabilitation in our trust so I want to learn more about the intervention, other MDT roles in this area and how I can enhance patient outcomes. My worries I imagine is being back in the uni setting so stay with me, it's been a while. Looking forward to meeting up with you all and learning from your experiences. Never been in Sheffield before so am very excited about the face to face days next week.

Hello, My name is molly and i am the Macmillan specialist/review radiographer for Worcestershire Oncology Centre. In my current role i run clinics for patients that are on treatment or may have recently finished. This is a combination of surgery, chemo and radiotherapy. I am looking at setting up a late effects service so thought that this module would be useful to feed into that. I have set up a couple of rehabilitation courses for our patients such as HOPE, Hydrotherapy, and also an introduction back to exercise with the Nuffield. But would like to further expand these initiatives for patients. As all of the therapy rads on here will appreciate, bladder filling for pelvic radiotherapy is a huge issue so we would like to set up a prehabilitation service to help these patients better understand the protocol and make treatment a little easier for them! Looking forward to meeting everyone next week!

Hi Everyone,

Looking forward to meeting tomorrow in Sheffield.

My name is Amy and I am the Lead Dietitian in the Shape Up 4 Cancer Surgery Team (Prehabilitation) at Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust (LTHT), we are a 2 year programme with initial funding from Macmillan Cancer Support, with the vision to secure ongoing funding from our trust.

I currently live in north Leeds and have been working at LTHT for the past 5 years (qualified for 10 years), prior to my current role I led the Critical Care Dietetic Team, but have chosen returned to the oncology specialty in August 2023 after completing an NHSE fellowship in the Caribbean last year.

I hope that this module helps consolidate knowledge I have gained in my current role and a previous prehab roles and I can build from there. I hope to learn from everyone's experiences and be able to share top tips and think about things from a different viewpoint. I would also hope it provides me with knowledge and skill to help contribute to our team securing ongoing funding from LTHT.

Concerns are similar to everyone else's of completing additional work on top of a full time role. It's been a while since I have been in the 'studying space' so will need to dust off some skills that are hopefully stored somewhere in my brain!

See you all tomorrow! :)
