This helps to regulate their emotions, sensory input, or attention. Having a consistent procedure prevents disruptions and gives students autonomy. When a student needs a break, they are able to use their AAC device to ask for a break, hold up a visual cue card that displays 'break', or walk to the calm down corner and set the timer to 5 minutes.
