In my field, this is one of the ways we communicate big ideas and show that we are in conversation with others in the discipline. I am feeling really nervous about this goal, as I know it requires a lot of time and dedication. STEM degrees are intense, and with the added struggle of maintaining my health, I know it’s an arduous task. Nevertheless, by steadily moving towards my goal, at whatever pace I can manage, I believe I will be successful.
I want to become a data analyst, accountant, or actuary as I’ve always liked math and want a stable career that can support my passions. When I was younger I was part of a robotics team as a lead programmer and even went to an international competition, so I know that I enjoy coding, working with numbers, and problem-solving.
The first step I’m taking toward reaching my goal is working towards an Associate’s degree at Southwestern, intending to transfer to a four-year university to earn my Bachelor’s afterward. I know I’ll be taking a lot of math classes going forward since my major is in the STEM field, so in order to set myself up for success I’ve enrolled in the algebra refresher courses. I’m doing my best to diligently review as much content as I can, so I won’t be behind once I start covering new content in the next semester.

A career path that I am highly interested in is becoming an information technologist or either working in cyber security. This career path interested me because my parents advocated the idea that our world will continuously revolve around technology so having a technology related job will most likely be stable and high paying. The first step that I have taken in order to reach my goal is having a long discussion with an IT worker at my high school, where he informed me about his own experiences of how he achieved his dream. The second step will depend on my determination of getting to know more about information technology and whether I am able to fully enjoy this passion. Nursing school is extremely competitive and that's what makes me want to work hard. I am following in my father's footsteps currently becoming an EMT and I am excited to learn from him. And the beauty industry s something that can also have a high impact on our environment. Family members and friends were also one of the main inspirations to help as many do not have access to the resources that can help them with their needs. This can also really take a toll on their mental health. So I would really like to help people feel their best while helping the environment! Last year I took the AP Environment Science class offered at my high school while also participating in a program that focuses on and helps youth become leaders in their communities when it comes to environmental justice. This summer I will be in a Water Justice internship focusing on the Tijuana River.
