The November of 2009 I spent the entire month dedicated to the four Twilight novels. I unashamedly thought they were the greatest pieces of literature that had ever entered my naive little mind. Bonus Points for 7th grade Hannah for the fact that she faked a stomach ache to get out of Thanksgiving festivities merely to sneak in more reading time.

My first favorite book, that I can remember reading (and re-reading) was a Young Readers book about a group of fairies. My best friend, her younger sister and my younger sister dedicated time to acting out the story in my backyard. We, added backstories to the characters and spent time entering into the story.

Talking with my Mom I was brought back to some of the sweetest memories. She told me how before I could read she would read to me and ask me to point to images as she read them. My favorites were; Goodnight Moon, Goodnight Gorilla, Put Me in the Zoo, and Are you My Mother? I began reading smaller books on my own when I was in preschool.

Before I was old enough to read stories on my own I loved having my Dad tell stories before I went to bed. My Dad would make stories up going off of themes I enjoyed and we would elaborate the stories further, with recurring characters and problems to solve. Even after I could read on my own I enjoyed hearing stories being told. This sparked a love for storytelling which grew into a passion for exploring storytelling through reading.

Somewhere after finishing the Harry Potter series (my first true love) and the saga that was Twilight I became the kind of reader that would willingly sacrifice sleep for a few extra chapters. My mom knew that I would not get anything done if I was invested in a good book so we started having to schedule homework before free reading time.

A few summers ago I worked at a Christian Summer Camp where I learned about the world of nonfiction reading. I started reading biographies, memoirs, and books centered on topics I was invested in. This is when I found the book Anything. I loved the way it spoke candidly about Faith and realized that reading looks different through various genres, and my reading could mature alongside of me.
