This problem is being solved by drawing something that may be seen as indecent that needs to be covered up right away. 

 I picked this project because it was different and made me laugh, it was innovative and exciting. Something that you'd say about doing on a night out to get a couple of laughs but never be confident enough to go through with it in fear of stepping on some corporates toes. 
Something you'd laugh at when you saw it in the street and wish you thought of it or had the confidence to do. 
This man seems like he has nothing to lose, he has taken matters into his own hands as he is 'frustrated by the number of potholes pockmarking his city streets'.
He, who calls himself 'Wanksy' even states that "it either gets reported or fixed". 

In all seriousness, this project appealed to me as a person with hidden disabilities that mean I have chronic pain. Driving and hitting a pothole jolts me and many others who struggle like I do which makes our journeys more uncomfortable than necessary. Potholes are a massive issue that get ignored or dropped at the bottom of the to do list. 

This project is incredible as it is so outside of the box and unique, which makes it innovative. Its something different, something you'll only see once in your life and remember it like you see it everyday. This was tricky in more tan one way. 
Number one, coming up with the range of different ideas and Number two, making sure they were all equal as when i got carried away with the design i would make some pieces larger or smaller than the others, meaning i was not completing the task a hand successfully. I didn't do a very good job on this task and found it so difficult to think of other designs. The only design i really like in this is the pebble shapes however they are not equal but the idea is still there. My mind drew a blank, i didn't know how t get anything aside these and even then they were tricky.

It's a lot to take in but i really enjoyed the work we did and went we went through. I engaged in the team building challenge and came up with a creative problem for using less tape in by using the newspaper to stabilize the tower. We didn't win the contest and i think i put too much thought into it rather than just rolling with it. 
I found the next tasks more difficult; the circles and the squares and i did feel a bit disheartened when it came around to sharing what we had created, i feel like i wasn't as creative as the others but i recognise that we all have our strengths and i am willing to work with mine and maybe gain some more. 

I liked the tutorial task we were set to look at examples of creative problem solving in real life. It helped me understand more of what we were learning. I wrote about the Manchester man who drew Penis's around Potholes to get them to be fixed. I found this not only incredibly innovative but also absolutely hilarious. I am not 100% confident that i have chosen a boring house hold item as a door handle is not an item but rather part of the house. Nevertheless, i started by using a chalk pen to section out the boxes for each sketch. I knew from the start that i would move onto photography for two reasons, one of which was that i am not very confident in my drawing skills and number two i find it difficult to draw different perspectives by just looking at the object. 
I tried to go with different perspectives and am quite proud of how some of them turned out, i really like number 7, number 10 and number 11. I expanded more on the idea and started to add shade and texture which improved it. 
I tried to create a birds eye view perspective for number 8 and number 12, however as mentioned before with me not being very good at drawing different perspectives they didn't turn out how expected however on further inspection i recognise that number 8 just looks like a flat front view of the door handle where i tried to shade it to become a birds eye pov but actually made it look more fitting to a front pov.

The definition of remix is to combine or edit existing materials to produce something new. 

Our first task of this week was to create a remix ourselves in pairs. We had to draw a logo and then give it to our partner to switch around and see what we could make out of it. 'Rotate the drawing, turn it sideways and upside down, looking from every angle until we spot a potential way of transforming it into something completley different.' Our next task was to brainstorm around different areas, these were Technologies, Human Needs and existing services. We then had to combine the elements from those areas that we were to come up with with the rest of the class to create fun/innovative concepts for new apps/services. 
An example we were given was a mash-up of Deliveroo and a Dating App: Tinderoo, which is an online dating platform that included food delivery.
I mixed a technological service with an exisitng service; Fingerprint and Spotify. Once we were given this brief we went to take photos around campus that could be suitable objects to use. 

I took notes as i walked around with my group, these being:

I got all of these ideas from looking at my surroundings as well as coming up with more ideas from what i could see around me. From working on the previous task of flipping the logos and creating something new from them i took this into consideration as i went around and took notes for this project. Which helped me create a couple of ideas and ways to merge objects and photos. Creative Constraints consist of the time you have to do something, the budget and the resources. Some people say that to be creative you need all the resources, loads of time and a lot of money and as great as that can be, it can also be overwhelming and lead you to create something ordinary whereas if you were limited you are more likely to think of more out of the box ideas.

Our starter task for this workshop included making something for an egg we were given so that when said egg was dropped from the first floor, it wouldn't break. The constraints we were given was the time we had to do it in and the resources we were given as they were limited. We were given about 10-15 minutes to create something out of two pieces of A3 paper, a small bit of tape, one piece of string and five paper clips.

Safe to say everyones came out different.

My group chose fear as we felt that it was easy to convey. We came up with things that people were afraid of, such as sharks, failing, being late, getting old, drowning and much more before settling on the fear of heights. We wanted to create this video with a comedic aspect and we thought that heights would be the easiest way to do so as well as being able to capture the idea in only six seconds. 

For the sharks we thought it could be funny to make it seem there was a shark in the water when it was either a kid in a swimming costume or a guy floating past playing the jaws theme song. We tried to narrow it down with the help from our module leaders by maybe filming it in a bath and having something touch the actors foot and then it just being a rubber duck or a shark toy. We liked the idea of making the audience thing it was something and then switching it up. 

We moved on to think about heights and thought that maybe we could make it that the actor is scared to step off the curb. The way we thought of this is by thinking that we could have the first shot of her looking all sweaty and scared, the wind blowing in her face and hair. Loud noise in the background such as seagulls and traffic, the background being blurry and a mid shot of the actor to create that level of fear. The idea for our first shot was a mid shot of the woman, who i played, we wanted her to look afraid and sweaty as she looked down from the cliff she was on at the great height. We wanted the second shot to be the waves crashing against the side of the cliff to enhance the feeling of fear as they are and can be big and violent. The idea for our third shot was to have her stepping off the pavement into a puddle as it transitions from the cliff to the original thing she was stepping off of. We then planned to have a close up shot of the splashes as she stepped into the puddle to recreate the waves in a less dangerous matter.

For example, it was sunny and  there were no strong winds causing my hair to blow massively or produced any strong waves that crashed against the side.

We can research in different ways though. It doesn't have to be hours of searching through wikipedia and random books you find online. We are shown an artist called Paula Zuccotti who is working on a project called 'Everything we touch' she is capturing how we see people, her question is 'what are objects telling me about people'. The platform is language, Paula is researching people. This method of capturing people and telling a story through images is a way of researching who you are talking about, it gives a bigger insight into them more than bullet pointed notes do. I feel this will really help me gain a deeper understanding for things as it works in a visual way. It creates a deeper meaning to it as well meaning i can gain that deeper understanding in order to create something in the future. 'Affinity diagramming helps designers capture research-backed insights, observations, concerns or requirements on individual sticky notes' This is a really hands on method as you can learn more about the individual you are interviewing when gaining the the research. This method stuck out to me because i use sticky notes all of the time, they are everywhere as i'm constantly thinking and constantly taking in information as a student and i can't keep it all in my head so i write it on a post it note and keep them until i have crossed off or completed everything on the sticky note and for the most part a lot of them will come under the same subject but they will be written differently or expressed better and essentially thats what happens with the Affinity Diagramming method, as after the interview process is finished and the observations have been collected the notes are put on to a wall 'covered in sheets of large-format paper' so it can be moved around if needed. The team then begin the process of interpreting the notes and trying to figure out the 'underlying significance of each' The notes that share the similar problem or 'that share an affinity - are clustered together'. Making the research and the knowledge gained easily accesible and explained and interpreted in different ways to solve the bigger issue. Ultimately Affinity Diagramming is collecting insights from a range of 50-100 people on different coloured sticky notes, collecting them altogether, interpreting the issues or concerns, how big they may be and working on a solution. She likes to have these things on view so she can appreciate them. 

Object number 1 is a blank set of Weekly Planning sheets to keep herself organised she said "my room is something that is my own and a constant in my life so it helps me to keep positive reinforcements and reminders in there." 
Object number 2 is a succulent, she has a few plants in her room as she can't have her own pet its nice to have something to look after and she loves to look after her plants, she also loves being in nature so it brings a little bit of that back into her space. 
Object number 3 is an Elephant Teapot, this was gifted to her from her brother for her birthday one year and holds sentimental value. It is also her favourite animal and a running theme in her family. 
Object number 4 is a Decorative Parasol which she received as a gift when she was younger, her sister also received one and they used to share a room. It reminds her of her childhood and times with her family; keeping her connected. 
Object number 5 is a Hanging Star which was a present from a friend from when they performed a play together for their drama A Level, a play that meant a lot to them that they spent long hours rehearsing. After their final show her friend gifted her this star with her name and the play on. It reminds her of their strong friendship and what the play meant to her. 
Object number 6 is a Lava Lamp she got from her mum, she always wanted a Lava Lamp, it is blue and green which are her favourite colours, it is a calming tone to have when she needs some downtime or rest. 
Object number 7 is a Candle, she loves the smell and the ambience that they provide, it gives her peace. 
Object number 8 is the Rose Painting, one of her closest friends made this for her among many others but this was the first. She has kept every piece of her work as it reminds her of the friendship she holds with this person and supports her and her work. 
Object number 9 is a Money Pot, she admits that she doesn't really use it unless she has spare change but it was a gift from a family friend and is a nice feature to balance out the room, also bringing a positive message. 
Object number 10 are some Throw Pillows, they are for comfort, they have elephants and green which include all the things she loves, they were a gift and one was from her travels to South Africa.
 
Overall this creative research has given be an insight into this person much more than desk research would, i've been able to gain a personal insight into this persons personal life and I have been able to find out that she surrounds herself with gifts that are so personal to her, she is an outgoing character too from the insights on the plant and the travels to South Africa. She has also bought her whole life with her whilst creating a new one as she surrounds herself with her childhood gifts.

I now have more insight into people in general, even though I only studied one, as it opens a whole different way of communicating and researching. 'The Wallet Project is an immersive activity meant to give participants a full cycle through the design thinking process in as short a time as possible. 

We start off by designing the IDEAL wallet, sketching your idea in the first 3 minutes. I didn't feel like my idea was very creative and I could't think of anything that could have been super out there as well as being ideal, plus I only had 3 minutes so i just drew and added pieces on when I thought of them. I later learned that this is called a "false start", apparently it doesn't feel great for other people either so we move onto the next step, trying a human - centered design thinking approach. We were given a new mission; to design something useful and meaningful for your partner. Start by gaining empathy. I wasn't in this session so I ended up interviewing my sister, (They go by they/them pronouns) I asked them if I could design something that was useful and meaningful for them what would that be, they had a bit of a think about it and then said 'colourful toilet paper'. I asked them why, to which they replied with "Its boring, I'm already bored sitting on the toilet, why is it white" they wanted to make it more interesting. I then delved deeper into this idea and they explained that it would simply be cooler to have more interesting toilet paper, maybe even more exclusive and eco-friendly. We were started to get somewhere, I learnt that they are very passionate and Eco-conscious, they care a lot about BLM and the LGBTQ+ community and their idea was to create different toilet paper that included it being eco friendly, included support to members and allies of the BLM and LGBTQ+ communities as well as having some fun and light toilet paper such as different colours and some famous icons, we used Whitney Houston, Taylor Swift, Freddie Mercury and David Bowie. It was meaningful to them because it wouldn't be having a negative impact on the environment and it would sort their problem of being bored on the loo. 

I then had to capture all my findings and create the final design(s). We worked with creative constraints, the biggest one being the time we had to create this and convey the message. I remember that our idea was to trick the audience and that was where the humour aspect came in. When you fail early it gives you time to restart, when you fail often it gives you chances to learn. This week we were working on Prototyping, we learnt about Hi-Fi and Lo-Fi prototypes, we learnt that you could create hundreds of prototypes and still not be happy with the outcome. This was the idea, creating prototypes upon prototypes even if they were bad and they grew into something new or they were an example not to go in that direction. Me and my partner picked Mountain Sports Enthusiasts. We had to carry out a PACT analysis on our user group to identify important factors that would influence our design. PACT stands for People, Activities, Context and Technology. From this analysis we directed that the people this was for was the Mountain Enthusiasts, they took part in these activities to train, reach a goal and as a hobby. We figures that in this context they would most likely be in small groups, they wouldn't have any service, they would have to be focused, there could be extreme weather, they needed to be hands free and their could be poor visibility as well as limited charge. From Technology we thought about taking the app off the screen and Turing it into an audio weather app. This would take their focus, their visibility and there hands free needs into consideration. They would be able to stay updated with the weather with ought constantly checking their phones. From here we were able to sketch out out ideas and create the wireframe for our ad.
Our main things to include were which mountain you were on, voice activations and hourly updates as well as emergency alerts.

You can also click on the voice activation which describes that all you have to say is Hey Walkie to get its attention, when you click on this it will take you to another screen where you can turn him on or off.

If you use the back buttons you will go back to the page you were on before hand and you can then click the Alerts button if you wish to turn them on or off at any point.

The way I would describe how I feel when I create mind maps is that I am writing down everything that's going on in my head, my thoughts are being taken and placed on the sheet infront of me, emptying my brain and allowing more ideas to come through and as they do so I can branch out another section and scribble down that idea. Mind Maps are incredibly helpful for me as I tend to have a lot of ideas but no way of working through them but using mind maps helps me with this as I can create more ideas from what is there already.
