Coming of Age

"I liked knowing that I could do what grown-ups did for a living." this a quote said by Jeanette and it shows she had to come of age a lot quicker than other children since she didn't have any parents in her household that haven't came of age on their own. So Jeanette and the other kids in the household mature faster so they can take care of themselves because if they don't nobody will.

The Fantasy vs Reality theme in this book "The Glass Castle" is the main item The Glass Castle. The kids imagination would run on and keep thinking about the glass castle whenever Rex would mention it, but once they started to get older they soon realized that this was all a fantasy when the hole they digged out for the foundation was filled up with trash.

Forgiveness

In This book we find out forgiveness is a recurring theme in the story. From the time Rose Mary told Jeanette she basically forgave hitler because "everyone has something good about them" stating that hitler loved dogs. With all the forgiveness in this book it helps each character thrive from hope, strength, individualism, and respect. These are the qualities that make the walls family unique and special.

In this story the main broken promise is the name of the book "The Glass Castle" that rex promises to build secretly Rex knew that the castle was never going to be built, he just hoped that his kids still believed in him even though he was never going to build it, he just wants the reassurance they were giving him. To Jeanette the whole glass castle stands for Broken Promises.

Acceptance

“You should never hate anyone, even your worst enemies. Everyone has something good about them. You have to find the redeeming quality and love the person for that.” although i've already used this quote, this quote shows acceptance as well because the quote behind this includes hitler and Rose Mary talks about forgiving Hitler because he loved dogs.
