The white teachers who abuse the children

Abuse: 

The people who abused the children for speaking their langue or trying to run away

Secret path:

The path that the children take when trying to escape the school, and can be caught and punished if they are found.

Chanie is sick with tuberculosis, being sick or getting sick was very common among the children at the schools.
Escape:

Chanie and two other boys escaped the school and now are on the run trying to get home.

Freedom:

The boys are free from the abusive school and now are on the run from the pale people.

Chanie has hope when he sees the hummingbird, because the birds should be gone but there is this one so it gives him hope.

Freezing: 

It becomes night and the boys become freezing after trying to start a fire and huddle together to stay warm.

Useless: 

When the other boys reach into their pockets to see what they have chanie only find the map and feels useless when they are trying to start a fire because he has nothing to provide.

Chanie is excited of his finding and cant wait to give it the brothers.

Treasure:

Chanie found a owl plet and inside he found his “treasure” a mouse skull.

Adventure: 

It was chanie’s first day not at the school, the further they go away from the school the bigger their adventure gets.

Chanie feels like a burden once the uncle sees the boy, his first thought is another mouth to feed.

Parched: 

The boy chanie is so thirsty he forgets the lesson his father taught him about drinking water with cupped hands.

Steady:

Chinese journey to the river then to the uncle cabin is quite and steady, he is going at a constant pace and is not in a rush to be sun down or is still running away from the school, he thinks he is far enough that he can walk

Even though chaine is around a family they have made him feel isolated and alone, he sits in the conner to sleep because he feels he does not fit in.

Alienated:
He feels as though he is being pushed aside by this family, because there is not enough room for him.

Thankful:

Chanie is thankful for the family some what helping him, but he knows that it wont last long.

For the first time in the last two year chanie feels content like he was at home again.

Crushed: 

Chanie is crushed when he finds out that the family does not want him there and they are helping him get back to the school not home.

Abandoned:

Chanie is abandoned by the family, they tell him to leave because they cant care for him.

On chanie’s way to the uncles fishing cabin, he think about his family. Chanie doing this is giving him hope that he will get back home.

Flashback:

Chanie is think about what his time would have been like if he was not taken away and was still at home.

Peaceful:

These memories are peaceful and make chanie happy, and hopeful that he will get home.

Chanie begins to experience anxiety when he hears the beavers.

Fading:

The temperatures drop, making chanie more cold and ill.

Suffering:

Chanie is getting more sick and cold, he is beginning to suffer, and only will continue if he does not get home soon.

Imagine:

Even thought the weather is getting worse chanie’s mind is still imagining the best and what his father would be doing/saying if he was there.

Helpless:

Chanie becomes helpless when he falls, it became to much work for his body to stand back up, now he is helplessly lawing on the ground struggling in the freezing cold.

When the lynx watches Chanie fall, she goes and shelters him, as if it was her cub.

Loss:

After a drawn-out journey Chanie lost to mother nature, he died. He never made it home.
Neutral:

After Chanie died everything became neutral, he was not suffering anymore. And mother nature returned to its natural state.

When trying to sleep the boys begin to reflect on why they left and what they will find.

Protected:

Chanie feel the protection of the owl watching them, knowing that they will go further then anyone else who escaped.

Isolated: 

Chanie begins to feel isolated when the other boys leave him behind and dont include him when trying to keep warm, chanie pushes himself in there.
