This represents the secrets that were being kept from the public, and how they were let loose. Since this occasion was so important, it was put on the cover of TIME Magazine. Most Americans understood the significance of the Pentagon Papers when they saw how hard Nixon's administration fought to keep it hidden.

-The papers were officially titled "Report of the Office of the Secretary of Defense Vietnam Task Force".
-The study was made of 47 volumes, consisting of about 3,000 pages of narrative and 4,000 pages of appended documents. The study took 18 months to complete.
-At first, Daniel Ellsberg was an early supporter of U.S. involvement in Indochina, but he eventually believed that the Vietnam War was unwinnable.
-Soon later, Daniel Ellsberg thought that what was in the papers should be available to American public, so he secretly photocopied the information and gave it to New York Times.
-On June 13, 1971 there were a series of articles based on the study that were published by the New York Times.
-The U.S. ultimately tried to stop the publication of these articles, but failed because the U.S. Supreme Court said that the articles failed to prove harm to U.S. national security. They also said that the publication of these papers was justified under the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution (Freedom of the Press).
