This was the work I made today at the first studio session after getting the brief. I made an image of my favourite food and how it makes me feel, this being spicy noodles. I painted this in acrylic paint and layered it on thickly for texture and drew the smoke in graphite pencil. After this we made 3D models of 'cutlery' for this meal and I made a polymer clay model of a fire extinguisher

While I was here I worked on observational drawings, drawing from life and taking photos. I am mostly interested in looking into the restaurant and cooking side to food and looked out at the market for menus and cooked meals to research. 

For my drawings I wanted to catch the essence of the market by exaggerating colour and line etc but also wanted to get good accurate drawings to look back on later in the project.

The zine 'Rabbit love stories' was interesting to me as it was animals doing human things- this is a fun approach to storytelling and something I would potentially go further with. My original idea to tell stories of my time working in kitchens could be told through animals to maybe make it more interesting.

I also felt as though the world I am illustrating could be more in depth so I am making some images related to their resturant. A lot of my time is spent feeding and looking after my animals and this got me thinking about interesting ways their food could be used as inspiration. The image of applying human characteristics to their food was fun. Most people are disgusted by the food I feed to my frogs; crickets, roaches and mealworms etc and the thought of turning these insects into something 'appetising' was interesting to me. Making human recipes using a frogs diet as ingredients was a fun contrast I wanted to work with. I named their restaurant 'Hungry frogs' and added some human recipe/frog food dishes that at first look you think that its human food, but you can see that its made of things like worms and other bugs. These above were my first prints however I used the wrong paper so it didn't come out great. The ink is patchy and transfers due to me using unsuitable paper for the printer. The technician advised me on the correct paper to use and from that I got the better results.

While the printing quality on the second lot of prints is much better, I really like the textured effect on the first. I used felt for the cover and embroidered in the design, and then sewed this into the pages. 

If i had more time I would have gone back to the print workshop and used more textured paper as this effect suits my style much more than what I used.
