Danny Hanson is a 17 year old male, who is an out-and-out striker who plays for Brentwood. Danny attends Havering sixth form college and participates in a sports coaching course which opens up possibilities of becoming a professional football player or a coach. Danny's goal is to become a professional footballer. His outgoing personality is helpful to this due to his willingness to throw himself into any scenario especially if it is football or sport related. Danny's strengths in football are his shooting and his ability to uphold the ball in tricky situations. Furthermore, Danny's weaknesses in football are his lack of taking responsibility in certain situations especially situations where he maybe at fault and heading the ball. Danny hasn't quite fully matured yet but his adult features are definitely coming through, as shown through facial hair but not through physical build as Danny himself reckons he has "a few more inches left" to be added to his height. Danny works very hard in every single which strongly benefits his road and aspirations of becoming a professional football player as the more he puts into the sessions, the more he will get out of them, and as long he is doing this he will be getting the maximum out of every session.

barriers in sport and how to overcome them

Barrier - is something that prevents or stops someone from developing in a physical activity or sport.

Barriers in sport:

Lack of time - this is a barrier in sport especially for people who have a job. This is because they do not have enough time in a day to participate in any exercise as a result of their job obviously being more important. This is a barrier because exercise is most probably the last thing they would think about when getting home from work as aspects such a making dinner for a family will further consume time. coaches can tackle this barrier through spacing the sessions of exercise into the gaps in there weekly routine. For example, you may not have work on the weekends meaning you have the weekend to implement any sort of exercise into your routine.

Lack of motivation - this is a barrier in sport for anyone from a young child to an elderly person. This is because this barrier in particular can be sparked through many things such as tiredness and lack of improvement. This is a barrier in sport because exercise takes work and effort and this maybe hard for some people. Lack of success and improvement can result in a decrease in motivation. As a result of seeing no improvement it creates questions in your head such as, "why am I doing this when I am not improving" and "what is the point anymore". These questions can be changed by coaches through offering inspirational quotes and advice to get you up and going to participate in some exercise.

Location - this is a barrier in sport for anyone spanning across any ages and any genders. This can be a problem for anyone as it just depends on where you live. For example, where I live may not be anywhere near any exercise facilities and factors such as not owning a car will have an affect as you won't be able to travel to exercise facilities that may be quite a distance away from you. Coaches can tackle this problem through posting at home work out tutorials onto social media platforms such as YouTube, for those who struggle with the barrier of location.

Money - this is a barrier in sport for anyone who maybe within the poor category of society. This is because gym equipment and gym membership are growing in cost. For example, the average monthly membership at a gym costs around £20 - £40. This can be expensive for some people. This can be tackled by purchasing at home exercise equipment. This can help a lot of things as far as petrol money to get to the gym.

Inclusivity - this is a barrier in sport for anyone. This is because it can come down to whether you are liked as a person or whether you are up to the correct skill level of the team you want to be included in. For example, I may be the least skilful player in the squad meaning I maybe not be included in any activities outside or the team that I am involved with. This barrier can be tackled by a coach through making sure that everyone is included in everything that the team does.

Transport - this is a barrier in sport for anyone who doesn't have a car anyone who cannot access public transport. This is because if the closest exercise facility is far away from you, without the accessibility of private or public transport or any transport at all, it will be difficult for you to get there. This barrier can be tackled by coaches through posting at home workouts onto social media platforms such as YouTube.

Tiredness - this can be a barrier for anyone, this is because tiredness is a main part of everybody's lives. This is a barrier because being tired affects peoples day to day lives in their attempts to do things. Your body maybe so tired that your body might just not allow you to do certain things. This barrier can be tackled by coaches giving advice about rest and recovery.

weight, this can be a barrier for anyone, this is because being over weight can cause thoughts like "is there any point in trying". Just by looking at your body, judging by your mentality it can cause a lack in motivation and lack of want to burn the fat off. this barrier can be tackled by coaches giving motivational advice on to various social media platforms.

Legislations and guidelines

DBS

· This is a barring and disclosure service. An individual cannot apply for a check by themselves.

· This will heavily impact on the delivery of coaching as it determines whether you can provide any type of coaching, whether it be assistant coaching depending on whether you have a criminal record or not.

· This is important because the safety of everyone is your responsibility as a coach and having no criminal record will enable you to be trusted as a coach to deliver sessions in the future.

Data protection act 2018

· This is the act of the UK implementation of the general data protection regulation (GDPR). This means everyone is responsible for using data that is personal has to follow strict rules which are called the ‘data protection principles. The ensures that the information is used fairly, clearly and lawfully.

· This will impact on the delivery of coaching whether you are trusted when online as a result of the protection of your personal data.

· This is important because it is PERSONAL information meaning it should only be seen by you and you only.

The equality acts

The Equality Act is a law which attempts to prevent you from discrimination. It means that discrimination or unfair treatment on the basis of certain personal characteristics and cultures, such as age, is now against the law in almost all cases. Furthermore, gender is now against the law in all cases. For example, discrimination in football, this law will ensure that all players are comfortable travelling abroad to football teams.

Children act 2004

This is an act that reinforces the duty that all people and organisations working with children have the duty that they have to help safeguard children and will have their welfare to protect. For example, a coach has the responsibility that every child is safe when playing football, this can be demonstrated through checking if the children are wearing shin pads.

Mental health act

This is the law that was set out when you can be admitted, detained and treated in hospital against your wishes. This is commonly known as being ‘sectioned’. For this to occur, certain people have to agree that you have some sort of mental disorder that enables a stay in hospital.

PREVENT duty

The prevent duty requires authorities which are specified including, education, local authorities, health, police and criminal justice. This will be demonstrated in places like schools etc.

Riddor 2013

This is the law that ensures that all and other people on work premises, to report and keep note of and records of any work accidents on work premises that can cause death. For example, a child getting injured in training or a game.

Health and safety (first aid)

Regulations 1981

This is an act that requires the employers to provide adequate and appropriate equipment, facilities and personnel to ensure that their employees receive immediate attention if taken ill or injured at work. This is important for a coach as a child can get injured.

Risk assessment:

•A risk assessment is process of identifying risks and hazards that may exist or appear in a workplace, how they may cause harm and to take steps to minimise harm.
