Teacher expectations can greatly influence how students perform. When teachers believe in a student’s potential, they often give more support and encouragement, which helps the student succeed. On the other hand, low expectations sometimes based on bias can lead students to feel discouraged and perform poorly. That’s why it’s important for teachers to reflect on their beliefs and set high, supportive expectations for all learners.

One way I can adapt to the cultural needs of students is by incorporating culturally responsive materials and examples into my lessons. This means choosing books, case studies, historical figures, and scenarios that reflect the diverse backgrounds of my students. When students see their cultures represented in the curriculum, it helps them feel respected and engaged. It also encourages all students to develop empathy and a broader worldview.

Implicit Bias is unconsciously stereotyping on an individual, influencing understandings, actions and decisions. Cultural competence is the ability to interact effectively with people from different cultural backgrounds and understanding and respecting the cultural differences.
