Student materials should be organized and stored in a visible and accessible space so that students can easily take them out and put them away.
2. It is important that teachers avoid dead space in their classrooms. Dead space is open space that is purposeless which can facilitate unproductive activity. 
3. It can be useful in some situations for the classroom space to be arranged to allow the teacher to see its entirety without blind spots to promote safety and control. However, this can be counterproductive for goals regarding trust, privacy, and independence. 
4. Even vertical space should be used productively (ex: walls, dividers, closets, cabinet doors, etc.). This is a great way to maximize the amount of usable space in the classroom. 
5. The use of dividers (placed diagonally with respect to the 90 degree orientation of the classroom walls) can facilitate movement and visual fields in a means that is both interesting and intentional.
6. Having designated areas to display student work around the classroom.
7. Keep separate active and quiet areas to effectively reduce distraction. 
8. It is important to create enough space between neighboring activity areas to create a clear boundary to reduce distraction. 
9. Creating clear traffic patterns between the different activity areas so that students' avoid walking through one area and disturbing the activity there to get to another. 
10.
