In the novel, the government portrays books as “bad” and they try to keep them away from the citizens of their society. The government attempted to keep the information in the books a secret or unread which proves one way of how they were controlling the information given to the public. Then Beatty explains that the less information the people receive, the better for the government. This is displayed when the government lies on television about capturing and killing Montag.
