The idea of the government controlling the people’s right to their information is supported by the quotes above. In the novel, the government portrays books as “bad” and they try to keep them away from the citizens of their society. The government attempted to keep the information in the books a secret or unread which proves one way of how they were controlling the information given to the public. Then Beatty explains that the less information the people receive, the better for the government. This is displayed when the government lies on television about capturing and killing Montag. Then the government provided distractions from the war by letting the people continuously watch the parlor walls.
