The narrator of the story is an outside character. He tells the famously known story of "The Three Bears." There are three bears (Little, Small, Wee Bear; Middle-Sized Bear; and Great, Huge Bear) who makes breakfast once morning; however, it was too hot to eat, so they go out for a stroll in the woods to allow time to cool the porridge. While they were gone, a girl (Goldenlocks) comes in and eats their food, sits in their furniture, and gets in their beds. When the bears come back, they notice that someone has been in the house. However, once they found Goldenlocks asleep in Little, Small, Wee Bear's bed, she awakes and runs away.

My favorite part is the last chapter. In the last chapter, the readers find out that the narrator is Louis. Louis is the recess teacher, and one day during a snow storm the kids have indoor recess. During recess, he tells the students a story about a strange school with weird students. However, the "strange" school he is describing is an average classroom. The students in Miss. Jewels class do not understand how other schools are not built like theres. Also, they don't understand how other schools don't funcation like theres.

The book is told by an outside narrator. Each chapter is about either a student or teacher who attends Wayside School. Each chapter consists of silly stories that are truly funny. Although none of the stories could truly happen, it seems as if they did. For instance, in the very beginning of the book, Mrs. Gorf turns all the kids into apples because she is really strict. However, the kids figure out away to be turned back into children, and Johnny ends up eating Mrs. Gorf.

Amelia is the main character. Everytime she begins to get settled down at a location, her father pulls out the map for them to migrate to the next place. She hates having to move all the time because she feels as if she has never been able to "settle down." However, one day she comes across an accidental road where she discovers a tree. She decides to make the tree her home, so everyday after school and work she visits the tree. Unlike the other places she lived, the teacher cared to learn her name. Because of that and the tree, she didn't want to leave she felt as if she belonged. Yet, she knew she would be leaving soon, so she decided to create a spot she could soon come back to. Therefore, she buried a box with some of her belongings.

My favorite part was the theme. The theme is something the reader can take away from the story and apply it to his/her life. I love how the author writes the story so that it conveys the truth in that a person's home is not necessarily a building, it can be where their heart is at.

This book explains and teaches about three different types of measuring systems: Egyptian, Customary, and Metric. It repeats all throughout the book that the different measuring systems "are just different ways of measuring the same length and distance." The author focuses on instructing readers how to measure specific things based off of the different systems being discussed.

I would recommend this book for a math or science class. I feel as if this book would be good for a variety of levels (first grade to 5th). This would be a good hook to introduce the concept of different metric systems. In addition to that, this book could also be used when teaching students how to write expository papers due to the detailed instructions on HOW TO measure different things using the different systems.

It would be a great way to integrate history with ELA. This would be a great book to use when teaching about the great depression because it allows kids to see inside the mind of a child during this rough time in history.
