For example, the narrator describes that Esperanza told Miguel that he was “the housekeeper’s son and she was the ranch owner’s daughter and between them ran a deep river. Esperanza stood on one side and Miguel stood on the other and the river could never be crossed” (Munoz-Ryan 17).
This shows that Esperanza did not think about how her comments made Miguel feel. She told him this because she feels that he is not worthy of her. In fact, this interaction shows that Miguel is not even worthy of Esperanza being sensitive to his feelings. She says something that is clearly hurtful and doesn’t think about how it affects him.

Tío Luis caused the fire because when he proposed to her she said no so after he burned the house down they would be forced to live with them, but instead on (Munoz Ryan 47) it says that " what If we go to the United States said mama" they wanted to escape to the United States for some money 

After mama had a plan to go to the United Statesshe told tío  Luis yes I will marry then asked him for a favor which was to get a wagon so they could leave him. He said of course. But the thing was he didn't know that they were leaving him, he was just happy that she was marrying him. So their plan worked, they gathered the whole family. This supports my claim because when tío Luis asked Ramona to marry him she said yes only so she could get a favor to leave him and escape for a wealthy life again. That's was her plan along even though Esperanza didn't agree with the decision

Tio Luis is not thinking about that his brother just died and that he should be kind to his brothers family, he is just thinking about himself and thinking that having Ramona as his wife can make him win any election. As you can see, tio Luis is greedy like I stated in my claim before.

This shows that Tio Luis is an opportunist because he sees situations where he can take advantage of someone, in this case Ramona. This also means that if someone part of Ramona's family is in the same emotional state, Tio Luis can tell them to ask Ramona something that would give him the advantage. Whenever Ramona is unhappy, Tio Luis always take the chance to ask for the proposal to try and take the farm.

This indicates, that tio Luis makes lives difficult when he is not getting his way. He told her this because he is informing her that what she had said was a very big mistake and that she will reconsider the proposal one way or another. In fact, tio Luis does not show any guilt of his actions towards others. He tells her that she can stay with the servants if she chooses, but only if something doesn't happen to their homes as well.  Tio Luis is threatening to destroy the servants' home, in addition to her own.
