“Be sympathetic to other people's misfortunes and congratulate their positive landmarks.”

Showing people that you care about their emotions is very important in communicating. If you don't acknowledge their emotion, you could hurt their feelings.

When someone I know accomplishes something that they're proud of, I make sure to congratulate them. It's always good to know someone cares.

Think Before You Speak

“Do not say the first thing that comes into your head but instead take a moment and pay close attention to what you say and how you say it.”

Speaking without thinking can be very harmful in communication. You need to first consider how the person might receive what you say.

If my sister asks my opinion about her outfit, I don't just say "it's ugly" even if that's the first thing I think. I put myself in her shoes and decide to be nicer about it and instead suggest a different outfit.
