Thinking about your response before they're done talking will distract you from getting the full meaning of what they're saying. 

When I'm talking with my friends about their problems, I make sure to listen very thoroughly. If I miss something, my response could be ineffective.

Showing people that you care about their emotions is very important in communicating. If you don't acknowledge their emotion, you could hurt their feelings. 

When someone I know accomplishes something that they're proud of, I make sure to congratulate them. It's always good to know someone cares.

Speaking without thinking can be very harmful in communication. You need to first consider how the person might receive what you say. 

If my sister asks my opinion about her outfit, I don't just say "it's ugly" even if that's the first thing I think. I put myself in her shoes and decide to be nicer about it and instead suggest a different outfit.
