Animal Testing

People throughout the world don't realize how many animals are tested on each year. The approximate number of animals tested on is 26 million. Scientists have tested on many kind of animals that they feel will better their research.
Animal testing certainly has its pros and cons. Considering that animal testing has improved biomedical, commercial, and health care uses, develop medical treatments, determine the toxicity of medications, and check the safety of products destined for human usage. This research and on animals has been going on since 500 BC. The major component as to why people favor animal testing, is because they help determine life-saving treatments for both animals and humans. Also that since there is such strict regulations for the scientists and laboratories, that there is no cruel action being done to the animals. Also that there is no other living organism they can preform testing on and get the results they desire.
Opponents of animal testing also have a strong argument that consists of the animals getting mistreated and that its inhumane to to experiment on animals. They also claim that since animals are highly diverse than humans, that the result of the testing is irrelevant. Also that there is more alternative methods rather than using animals.
In this controversial issue I believe that if the animals are not being mistreated and used for experiments that are irrelevant to developing medical treatments, then scientists should be able to test on them. Testing on animals has allowed us to be more efficient with medicine and discover new things about our bodies and how they react to certain things.

NFL Players Kneeling

The NFL is a very popular form of entertainment for most Americans. At every game, the National Anthem is played, due to respect for the Country, the Military, and our rights, most people stand. Lately that has not been the case. Many Football players have been kneeling, locking arms, or putting a fist in the air during the National Anthem. This started with a player named Colin Kaepernick. This has stirred up a huge debate and controversies between President Donald Trump and the NFL.
The players claim the reason for them kneeling is because they want to protest police brutality against the African American race. "I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people, and people of color," Kaepernick said in a press conference after first sitting out during the anthem. "To me, this is bigger than football, and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street, and people getting paid leave, and getting away with murder." This has come as a result of repeated videos showing police shooting and killing unarmed black men.
President Trump is making rigorous statements about how he wishes that the NFL would fire any players that kneel during the anthem. “Wouldn't you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, 'Get that son of a b***h off the field right now, out, he's fired. He's fired,'” Mr Trump said. “You know, some owner is going to do that. He's going to say, 'That guy that disrespects our flag, he's fired.' And that owner, they don't know it [but] they'll be the most popular person in this country.” The reason why people believe that kneeling during the anthem is bad, is because they believe that it is disrespectful to Veterans and people in the military that fight for our rights. The Military is one of the reasons why we have those rights to protest.

Abortion, Legal but inhumane?

Abortion can be defined as the intentional termination of a pregnancy during the first 28 weeks. In 2013, there were over 664,435 legal induced abortions. The abortion rate for 2013 was 12.5 abortions per 1,000 women aged 15–44 years, and the abortion ratio was 200 abortions per 1,000 live births. A court case called, Roe v. Wade, established that abortion was a fundamental right. In 2014, it is recorded that 46% of Americans consider themselves against abortion and 47% say they are for it.
Many people are for abortions, and they have good reasons to be. A major argument that most women are compelled to is that this reproductive choice empowers women and gives them control over there bodies. They can also argue that they are not terminating a baby, they are terminating a pregnancy. Individuality begins after a fetus becomes able to survive outside the womb or after birth, not at conception. Also the fetus doesn't feel any pain when the abortion is being performed. Women could want to get an abortion because they would have such a financial disadvantage. Women who are denied abortions are more likely to be on public welfare, be on a low poverty line, become victims of domestic violence, and become unemployed. In some circumstances it might also be beneficial for the fetus to not be born, especially if they are unwanted.
Although there are many people for abortions, there are many people against it. Most of these people believe abortion is the murder of an innocent human being. According to Kanwaljeet J. S. Anand, MBBS, D Phil, Professor of Pediatrics, Anesthesiology and Neurobiology at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, "If the fetus is beyond 20 weeks of gestation, I would assume that there will be pain caused to the fetus. And I believe it will be severe and excruciating pain." Many religious people deny abortion because it defies the word of God. Abortions can cause psychological damage leading to depression. Many people also believe that a women should accept the responsibility of producing a child; and if they feel they cannot handle it, then to put the baby to adoption. Allowing abortion conflicts with the unalienable right to life recognized by the Founding Fathers of the United States.

Gun Control

The 2nd Amendment, which states, "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed," has always been a controversial issue. The reason why this issue has been coming up is because the regulations aren't being followed. Almost 22% of Americans own at least one or more guns.People with mental disabilities, felons, and criminal backgrounds are getting guns with no problem and causing harm. Families to those who have lost someone due to this issue want there to be very strict standards and background checks in order to obtain a gun. Although, the other side of this issue states another precise argument. Gun-lovers argue that guns are needed for self-defense and sometimes recreational activities.
People who highly dislike guns also argue that more gun laws would reduce the death-by-guns immensely. Women are also a supporters of more gun laws because they believe there will be less domestic abusers and stalkers. A woman's risk of being murdered increases 500% if a gun is present during a domestic dispute. Also that guns are rarely used for self defense and are more likely used for criminal activity. Many guns end up in hands of criminals either because they are either stolen easily, or obtained at a store because the background checks aren't precise. Guns can also get into hands of a mentally unstable person or a teenager which could lead to suicide.
Gun supporters argue that more gun laws are infringing the Second Amendment which would be denying the people the right to self defense and safety. Gun control laws, especially those that try to ban "assault weapons," infringe upon the right to own guns for hunting and sport. People also argue that more gun laws won't prevent criminals from obtaining guns or breaking laws. Gun control laws give too much power to the government and may result in government tyranny and the government taking away all guns from citizens. People also dislike the idea of background checks and micro-stamping because they believe they are an invasion of privacy.Gun control laws and lower gun ownership rates do not prevent suicides. More gun control is not needed; education about guns and gun safety is needed to prevent accidental gun deaths.

Civil Liberties- Lemon v. Kurtzman

Both Rhode Island and Pennsylvania passed a statute that called for tax payers to pay for non-public education. Both statutes called for the paying of secondary school teachers, textbooks, and and other necessary materials. Many people in both those states were angry with the statute and they believed it violated the separation of church and state exclaimed in the First Amendment. The district court ruled in favor of the appellees and held that the statute violated the First Amendment. The significance of the case is founding of the ¨Lemon Test.¨ The Supreme Court made a 3-part test for laws dealing with religious establishment issues. They held that the practice was constitutional if it had a nonreligious purpose, neither advanced nor inhibited religion, and didn't encourage excessive government entanglement with religion. I believe the decision of the court case is highly correct. The fact that other people who may or may not be religious would have to pay for religious education for multiple people. This highly violated their First Amendment right because if they didn´t believe in any sort of religion the government was basically forcing them to fund the certain religion that secondary school was trying to teach.

Safer Methods for Schools

School shootings are becoming a regular event. Multiple methods have been debated as to whether they should be implemented or not. Some would say most methods are absurd or too extreme. On the other hand, people need to realize that schools need to take all the necessary and maybe absurd precautions to keep all kids safe.
Some safety methods I believe schools should incorporate could be medal detectors at all doors so in the instance of someone walking in with guns an alarm would go off and student and faculty would know immediately. Also it should be made as a precaution that teachers should have to keep their door closed and locked at all times. They should also have to open the door for any students that want to enter the classroom.
I also am I firm believer in the relationship of cause and effect. A child is not just going to want to shoot up a school out of no where. They have to be instigated and treated poorly by others to want to commit an act that horrifying. We all know and understand what bullying is and it is a major factor as to why these troubled kids do what they do. I think more anti-bullying programs should be enforced in schools because this could open up ways for the troubled kids to talk to adults about their feelings. I also think that these programs will help improve the students mental health and prevent them from committing an act they would regret.
