Hector's heart was filled with sorrow as he felt overwhelmed while he held Bella's lifeless body as Ricky was standing there awkwardly not understanding the situation.

Write here... Their journey begins after Ricky argues with Hector after he receives the mail telling him he will be taken to a foster home. Ricky goes off into the bush at night to escape from his almost certain destiny, which leads to him getting lost as he isn't very experienced in bushwalking. Hec - after realizing Ricky is missing - goes into the forest and finds him, starting their journey.

At first they struggle to get along, Hector is a gruff old man and Ricky is a boy who was raised in the city. Hector first thought Ricky was in the way of everything and annoying, but Ricky thought of him as an uncle. Over time they grow closer, rely on and trust each other.

Because Bella died, child welfare want to take Ricky away. Ricky runs away to avoid them and runs into Hec who is also in the bush. Hec fractured his ankle, but after a few days they started running because they were getting chased by child welfare. Later, they came across a house that seemed to be abandoned so they looted it and stole things like books and food they fought with some people who were trying to find them but got away unharmed except the people they fought with told people that Hec was a paedophile.

Write here... Because they found an ill man on the verge of death in the middle of the woods, in a small cabin. Uncle Hec decided to send Ricky out to seek help for the man.
