So you start out cooking from recipes and then move onto the creative application of creating new ones.  Without the basics; knowledge of ingredients and basic cooking skills you can not be a creative and innovated chef.  All programs need to have a balance but my best students in mathematics are the product of Kumon...brain training.  Once you have learned how the ingredients behave and interact you then start to successfully create new and innovated recipes.
