You don’t have to earn food. Food is fuel for life, you deserve to eat even if you haven’t done anything today. You don’t like the way you look, you feel like you’ve eaten too much, you’ve gained weight, you’re going out later. You need it to stay alive! Do not punish yourself, your body does so much for you.

It’s important to be mindful of language when communicating with others because you never know what may upset people and what is offensive to one person and not another. Especially when communicating with someone in a professional sense, it is even more important to build a trusting relationship, which can be quickly ruined if you say something you shouldn’t have. Someone like a patient, a patient would feel unsafe if their doctor said something that wasn’t necessarily kind.

3. It’s important to not classify foods into just healthy and unhealthy because that just isn’t how food works. Also, having that sort of mindset can easily lead to things like anorexia or bulimia. Foods aren’t either “unhealthy” or “healthy” for the population. It differs from person to person and having any food that may be what some consider “unhealthy” every so often isn’t a bad thing. You have to let your body have what it craves because otherwise you may binge on something else.

I think it can be easy to get pulled into the "all or nothing" mentality when it comes to working towards a goal, i.e., working out, homework, cleaning, etc. I have done this a lot too. There is nothing that says you have to go to the gym every single day or be cleaning something at all times. One can work up towards having a routine as well, which is one of my goals this semester. It can be difficult to balance when you have multiple roles to fill, but I've found that when I've followed my intuition and taken it day by day its made me happier and feel less rushed to fit everything in.

This message is something I was often told growing up! I was unable to confirm the origin of this expression, but I know it is also often used as a beauty/marketing slogan. I was always told this in the contexts of embracing your appearance as it is. The truth is: You are beautiful as you are. You are worthy. You are enough. Your weight, shape, size, hair color, skin color, height, etc. does not define you. No aspect of your appearance defines who you are, the kind of person you are, or what you offer. Embrace your unique being. :)

The term "cheat" implies that someone is doing something wrong or breaking rules, which can create guilt around eating certain foods.

Being mindful of language when talking with patients, clients, or members of the community is critical because it fosters respect, clarity, and trust. Using compassionate and straightforward language makes people feel appreciated, understood, and safe, which promotes open communication and produces better results. It also ensures that challenging information is accessible to all, which reduces miscommunication. Mindful language is especially crucial in delicate situations where emotional well-being is at stake, because words can either help or create suffering.
