I never connected to something so much. Sleep is vital to our sanity/mental stability and yet it's very easy to lose it. In context, I understand that Lady Macbeth is trying to justify her husband's awkward, manic behavior. So that she doesn't have to be scared of him too. We justify our short tempers on much of the same reasoning.

Mr. Robot is a show about a socially inept hacker who tries to save the world from the evil roots of corporate capitalism. Little does he know, before he can save the world, he must save himself. He is severely traumatized by his past, and his mind has disassociated into two separate entities: Mr. Robot (who manifests physically as his late father) and himself (a socially inept, drug-addicted millennial), which we learn with the hacker along the road. He tries to battle the second entity (who is almost insane) from coming out by taking Aderall to stay awake, because Mr. Robot comes out when he sleeps. He lacks the season of all natures. He is plagued by Mr. Robot's guilty actions in extreme illegal activity and fear mongering intimidation and his own guilt in his father's death. He is not innocent, and therefore cannot sleep.

Similar to Lady Macbeth as well, although she sleeps, it is restless and uneasy. The article talks about losing sleep shrinks the mental capacity (perhaps not physically, but definitely mentally). It explains the short tempers, the loss in focus during the day when we lose sleep. As such, a long period of time with no sleep can have deep behavioral and psychological effects (as it did on the Macbeths).

Because the setting is unfamiliar, the brain subconsciously stays half-awake in case something happens. Similarly, Macbeth feels guilty so he has a heightened sense of danger, of fear. "Blood will have blood", after all.

My final reaction to this quote is that yes, since sleep is such a vital part for our health, it will be understandably disturbed when we are stressed/feel guilt over something. Shakespeare must have felt the same way. At first glance, this quote means exactly this: sleep is important, and there are many reasons you can lack it.
