How have horror stories changed across time?
It started with small scares, like screaming and blood, then going through history or making up fictional creatures that would destroy mankind. Even there's stereotypes of every horror theme people in stories make.
But later on, it has gotten a little more scarier if some were chosen by smart choices/moves.

Historical: "No answer still. I thrust a torch through the remaining aperture and let it fall within. There came forth in return only a jingling of the bells. --Against the new masonry I re-erected the old rampart of bones. For the half of a century no mortal has disturbed them. In pace requiescat!"
- Thriller: "When a weird, sudden noise from behind him as he turns back to his computer, only to see on the screen if he's like to know exactly how he's going to die."

The Cask of Amontillado:
”A succession of loud and shrill screams, bursting suddenly from the throat of the chained form, seemed to thrust me violently back. -- I reapproached the wall; I replied to the yells of him who clamoured. I re-echoed, I aided, I surpassed them in volume and in strength.”
The Man Who Loved Flowers:
“If there were bloodstains on his suit, they wouldn’t show, not in the dark, not in the soft late spring dark, and her name had not been Norma but he knew what it his name was. It was. . . was Love.”
To Serve Man:
“The episode begins with Michael Chambers locked alone in a spartan room with a cot. A voice offers him a meal, delivered through a small aperture in the wall, which he grimly refuses.”
He Dies at the End:
"Startling/Spooking the question; “Do you know the person standing behind you?” Which he turns around to see nothing but a dark hallway."
