It talks about how capital back in the day was represented mainly by stocks and bonds. So all types of options were being traded on the NYSE.

Over 16,410,030 shares were exchanged on Black Tuesday. During the 1920s, the U.S. stock market underwent rapid expansion, reaching its peak in August 1929, a period of wild speculation. The main reason it crashed was due to the immense amount of large sums of credit being taken out, sometimes even by the homeless.

In 1929 many people were investing in stocks during this time. Many stocks during this time quadrupled. Also many people during this time didn't have the money to invest so they would loan out money even though they couldn't repay it later. Eventually more and more people kept doing this in hope to become rich, but for many people this strategy failed. This is one of the reasons which cause the market to crash in 1929.

The Great Depression and the Global Crisis are quite similar in many ways. Both resulted due to the banks giving out bad loans/credit to people who were not in a position to be receiving them. In the case of the recession, mortgage agents would allow strippers and homeless people to have 4 to 5 houses just so that they could get a bonus pension. Most of them didn't understand the repercussions or if they did they didn't care enough so long as they were getting large sums of capital.

PThis picture depicts the life of many Americans post-Depression, especially for single mothers. A lady who had multiple children that she needed to care for but couldn't because she had no money. Many families had no money at this time. Many people were trying to get their money out of the bank but couldn't because the banks had gone bankrupt because of everyone withdrawing there money. This caused families to run out of money. This also made it very hard to get a job. Some people couldn't even afford to feed their own families. It was very detrimental to all classes however it impacted the lower classes the most. This was because the banks and upper classes had failed, so the lower class was hurt.

This address from the Secretary of State to President Coolidge was one day after the markets crash. This was only addressed to him five hours after the stock market had crashed. The purpose of this was to inform the president of what they needed to do. It also was written in a very calm manner at the time. At this time everyone was trying to get their money out from the banks and basically freaking out. This address says that the bankers, brokers, and investors needed to remain calm and stay patient.`

Paragraph 1

The Stock Market and credit go hand-in-hand. Credit was formed on the basis idea that companies can profit and promote themselves by offering products (or services) for cheaper prices (sometimes even free at first) to provide incentive for more sales. An example, Mac wants to buy a Lamborghini but he only has $10,000 to his name at the time (not enough for a lambo). Under the principles of credit Mac would be able to pay a little now and have the Lamborghini, so long as he payed off the remaining debt by a certain time. Sounds great right? Not at all, because lots of agents who sold items on credit got commissions and bonus pensions for a certain amount of sales. So they would sell items and services to people who couldn't afford them if it came down to it. Lots of people believed that there were simply no reprecussions for doing this, but they were very wrong. If the banks are loaning money to people who are next to homeless and have no realistic way of repaying the banks, the banks are eventually going to run out of money to loan. So stocks were put into great excess of their real value along with the proliferation of debt within the market. So putting this into terms of the stock market, the stock market in essence is fantastic. It allows for publicly traded companies to become more familiar with their consumers/community, while at the same both sides of the party can profit. Shares in stock became attached to some salaries even, as an incentive for people to join.

The failure of credit and the stock market heavily impacted all social classes negatively, in both economic and cultural manners. The Stock Market Crash of 1929 directly resulted in the Great Depression, which affected many countries worldwide and also many different people. This didn't only have an affect on people living in the city, it also affected people like farmers. For example, many farmers land dropped and wasn't worth as much as it used to be. The farmers were also in trouble because nobody had the money to buy any of their crops. This led to the farmers not having money which means they would most likely have to sell the farm they were living on at whatever price they could get for it and start a new life. This also affected all of the people who were in the workforce at the time because everyone was in a complete frenzy and needed money. Basically because of this many business owners had to sell their business as fast as possible. People did this because they had absolutely zero faith in Wall Street at the time. The stock market crash of 1929 also had a major impact on other countries. For example, at this time a lot of the world trade had stopped and there was a huge increase on taxes for these trades. No trade meant that these other countries were doing poor economically as well, like Germany, Great Britian, and France. This eventually led to many banks in these foreign countries closing.

This primary source is from a newspaper that reports a man missing shortly after the stock market crash. This shows that many people couldn't take the stress they were under at the time. Sadly, a lot of people actually commited suicide at this time because of the loss in money. In the text it says that Gemansky was said to have "heavily invested in stocks.". This would be a mjor problem at the time for him because he most likely lost a lot of his money which would be the reason why he went missing. This is only one case out of many others and proves how awful the stock market crash really was in 1929.
