not just math class. When we encounter problems, we 

must persevere. We cannot quit when things are 

difficult. One thing we can do is rely on a little help from our friends. When we work together to solve a problem, 

we call this collaboration. We are about to learn more 

about perseverance and collaboration and how those 

two skills will help you in math and in your life.

Designate three corners of the room as Pig 1, Pig 2, and Pig 3. Ask the question, “Which pig showed perseverance?” TSW go to the corner that represents the pig they think showed perseverance. Most of the students should move to the corner for Pig 3. Once they are in the corner, tell the students to discuss how Pig 1, 2, or 3 showed perseverance. Listen 

to the discussion and ask 2 to 3 students to share their 

ideas. *It is important to have this movement moment because the students will listen to the second book next. They will be sitting too long without the movement moment.
