         <title>Despina Akriotou was born in Athens, Greece. She studied Greek and English Language and Literature at the University of Athens. She obtained an Advanced Diploma in T.E.F.L. and an M.A. Degree in Educational Research from the University of Lancaster, U.K.  In 1991 she was awarded the Alexandros Onassis Foundation scholarship for her doctorate studies at the University of Manchester, Department of Ethnic Studies of Education supervised by Professor Gajendra Verma which she obtained in 1994. She worked at IPODE Institute for the Greek Diaspora Education and Intercultural Studies, Greek Ministry of Education.Dr Despina Akriotou is a member of the adjunct faculty staff at the Hellenic Open University (LRM51). She is also a full-time Tutor at the University of Athens, Department of Early Childhood Education.   She has taught   Multicultural Education in the postgraduate program of the University of Nicosia in collaboration with the University of Patras. She has served as a teacher at all levels of education. She has taught in the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Crete and the University of Manchester. She has served as a school counselor in English in the Regional Directorate of Primary and Secondary Education of Central Greece. Her research interests focus on bilingualism and education, intercultural education, teaching Greek as a second or foreign language, and comparative pedagogy and globalization. She has published in scientific journals on the topics of her interests and has participated in various Greek and international conferences.</title>
