In one other similar story about Scylla by Hyginus, Scylla was loved by Glaucus, a sea god who was once a sailor. Odysseus must pass through the Straits of Messina, and has to either face the whirlpool created by Charybdis that could swallow the whole ship or encounter the six deadly heads of Scylla. In the end he chooses to pass Scylla, who eats six men, one for each head.
