This space is distinct from others because it is the neighborhood of my old high school where I was almost every day for 7 years of my life which is Shore Road. I never really had the chance to walk through here during school so it will be interesting to revisit.

-The implicit rules of this space is that there are multiple school zones present throughout Shore Road with 3 high schools being along the road. People navigate these by making sure they are not speeding while driving and by slowly walking through these crowded school areas.

-The history of this space contributes to its current atmosphere because of the history of students that have walked along this road. There is also multiple parks on this road where people go to take their children or hang out with friends.

-This space promotes social interactions because of the many students you see from different schools walking here. There are also many interactions between people at the many parks along the road.

B. Who has access to this space, and who does not? Why might that be? What kind of privilege, identity or other kind of markers does one need to access this space?

Everyone has access to this space. This is because it is a public area that tons of people walk through and drive through every day. There is no privilege, identity, or other kinds of markers for one to access this space.

-Everyone feels welcome here since it is a very high traffic area. No one would really feel excluded in this area.

-There is no power dynamics in this space and no one holds authority over it.

-An economic factor that determines access to the space is how well the parks are taken care of and how well the road is maintained. If these are not taken care of, it will make the area non accessible.

-Many different social identities exist in this space because of the many schools in the area and the diverse population of the neighborhood.

-Maintenance of the space reflects how much this community cares for it and how hard they try to improve constantly.

C. What do you know about this space? Where does that information come from? What you may not know, and how might you find out more?

I know that this space is a very long road stretching many blocks and avenues. I know this because I went to school in this area for 7 years. I might not know how long it stretches because I have never walked the whole way and I can find out more by walking down the area I never did.

-My personal experience influenced my access of this space because I was forced to travel there for school so I had to learn about the area.

-I might have the bias of that this is the best area to go to school in Brooklyn because of the scenery of the walk. There are great views of Staten Island, the ocean, and the Verrazano Bridge.

-I can use methods of observation to uncover histories of this space because during my time in high school I would discover something new everyday.

-Local businesses influence the information in this space because only a few blocks away is a busy avenue with lots of shops and restaurants.

"Walking research" can enhance our understanding and awareness of spaces, identities, and bodies by making a more immersive and embodied experience of our surroundings. By engaging in walking, we become more aware of the sensory, spatial, and social dynamics of an environment. This can reveal insights that might be overlooked in more traditional research approaches.
