From hearing the song by Alicia Keys, "Empire State of Mind", where she sang "anything is possible once you're in New York..", to seeing many films that portray the city as a place where anything is possible, a place of accomplishment, hard-work and dreams. 

It was a gift from my uncle who has also fallen for the charm of the city and was very lucky to experience it himself when he had the opportunity to visit. Th gift he presented me with was this model taxi, that has been with me ever since that day, and has non-stop inspired me to do everything I can to go and visit the city myself in the future. The way my uncle talked about the city with pure joy and excitement, after returning, filled my head with the "anything is possible" city of possibilities.
The model represents for me both the past and present, but also the future. This gift from the past is a gentle nudge or reminder day to to day, in the present, that in order to fufill all my dreams and feel accomplished in the future I have to work hard now. No dream is too big if you can imagine it; and as insignificant as a ride in a New York taxi, to make you wish for more.

 I have always been a hopeless romantic by definition. I have always believed in the power and importance of small gestures and the act of showing uncondemned affection, that is the foundation of building a strong and long lasting relationship. As they say, keep the romance growing. 

If it is by a spontaneous dinner date, or a evening walk through the part, or indeed as simple as the act of giving a lady a bouquet; a rose. Special flower; a symbol of absolute love and devotion, the love that lasts forever- a symbol in which I wholeheartedly believe in. 
 And although bouquets of roses don't want to last forever, a simple gift, a plastic- though by few seen as not so romantic- in my eyes the symbol of my believe in romance, that I can keep forever. 

- In greek mythology, roses originated from Adonis, the deity of plants and rebirth. Raised by Aphrodite, son of King Theias and his daughter Myrrha. Adonis was found dying by Athrodite after he was attacked by Ares- Aphrodites' past lover- disguised as a wild boar. When Aphrodite found him dying, his blood that touched the ground turned into roses
- Secracy and confidentiality, "sub rosa" in Ancient Rome meaning 'under the rose', hung on ceilings meant confidentiality of wine night
- Middle Ages, hung on ceilings meant anyone underneath was sworn to secrecy
- Rose symbol also is found on four parrot cards; the Fool, the Magician, the Strength card and the Death card.
- The Fool= white roses symbolise purity and the reminder to cleanse your mind
- The Magician card= unfolding wisdom
- The Strength card= balance
- The Death card= it's a reminder of purity, clarity and transparency of intent
- Each different colour of a rose represents a different emotion
- Also the number of roses can signify a different message, for example one rose meaning "love at first sight" and six roses meaning "I want to be yours". But all meanings evolve around the theme of love and passion.

The luck coming from the history of he stone itself; Amber. A precious stone which is very popular in the country I am from. I can be sometimes found on beaches, indeed if you're in luck. It is popularly used mainly to make jewellery often combined with silver to please the eye of the customer- a quite rich imitating combination of materials and also colours. 

Although amber is not in the favourites of precious stones I care for much, the gift of the amber necklace and the message that came with it have given it a much richer value for me. I cherish the necklace, knowing it was given with no impure intention.

Also this item reminds me of many moments in my life, from when I was a baby and would steal my grandma's huge necklaces or when my mother brought me this beautiful silver and amber earrings.

The significance of that day was not the fact that is was the day of my 'Big 18th' but because it was the first time someone planned a surprise party for me. The joy and happiness I felt on that day lives with me in that brooch until today.
