Nat Turner's Rebellion sparked fear into the South, this new found fear compelled many white southerners to fear that another Nat Turner would show up. This product of the event ended up being called the "White Terror" in which Slave Codes became much more strict in order to further take away rights from slaves, barring them from making any moves against the slave owners or any civilians through the law. With more rights being stripped away from the slaves, it increasingly became more obvious that something would have to interfere with the topic and prevent it from it getting worse.

The Gold Rush occurred when tons of people rushed west to find gold and start a new life. However, due to the amount of people moving to the west, there were disagreements on what the land should be labeled in between. Both north and south noticed the land after enough people moved over, and both sides wanted as much territory they could get so they could establish political dominance over the other side.

After Dred Scott argued for his freedom, the court made it a point to establish what a slave was and could do. With the case, it was said by the court that only whites could be citizens, the Missouri Compromise was unconstitutional, undermined popular sovereignty, and that the Republican platform of limiting slavery was unconstitutional. This decision caused lots of contrasting opinions in the North in South, driving the two further apart.

With the publication of Uncle Tom's Cabin, a lot of the truth about slavery was revealed. It pushed the point that slavery was not just a political issue, but a moral one. The publication of this book increased the Northern protests against the Fugitive Slave Act, and made the Southerners believe that they were being attacked for their stance on slavery.
