The video also mentioned that the movement to online has caused hate groups to not have as much responsibility because people are part of the audience not members to the specific group. I found this interesting because it sounds like a lot of people in the far right just took a wrong turn after encountering a difficult situation in their life and finding the ideas of the far right to be the beset way out of it. Alt-right media looks like in engulfs their followers into a feedback loop that negates all other forms of media, while making it look like their ideas and motives are just and proper. The first step is to identify the audience and, the picture above shows the example of Gabe. He is someone who fits right at the intersection of the Venn diagram between a straight cis man who feels emasculated and people who are vulnerable to recruitment. Which is the ideal candidate for the Alt-right group is looking for to recruit. It is crazy to think that they have a certain demographic they look for to persuade into their group. They find white cis men who are going through some kind of crisis making them easy targets. They are trying to find meaning in their life or just trying to fit in. Then there is this group that utilizes that to their advantage to gain numbers. They are also not the only group to use that method. It shows that many radical groups use the idea of preying on those who are easily confused and persuaded to join their movement. What was troubling in this video and segment is when the author says, "..the media wants nothing more to do with them..." I completely disagree and I think with any conflict of any group, and especially protests, rioting, and hate groups the media wants everything to do with them no matter what side they are on or how the majority of the public feels about them. Alt-right groups, Nazi groups, etc. create dollar signs for the media, and it sells. Conflict, outrage, and hate makes a story and usually a long drawn out one and the media I think give these groups a large spotlight. They say that a good argument is easily understood, remembered, and repeated. Conversely, a bad argument must be repeated to continue being accepted. "Just listen to these 17 videos, you'll see for yourself..." sounds exactly like a couple people I knew previously that had been indoctrinated into the alt-right. They say things like 'do your own research' and they think that's more valid than them trying to explain it themselves. Some examples given in the video were how they do agree workers are overworked and under compensated, but rather than supporting unions, Gabe and people like him blame immigrants. Or, how they recognize there’s a loneliness and strong emotions involved with being a modern man, but rather than acknowledging toxic masculinity and the patriarchy’s role in that they blame women’s promiscuity.

It was interesting to think about how the fact that some pretty "bad" things can seem normal because of how accustom someone becomes to it. For example, in this day in age it is 100% normal to see videos ,images , etc. of horrific events that occurred all over social media. I am never shocked to scroll social media and see something like a video clip of a mass shooting. It makes a good point, though (among many throughout the video), and I felt a bit of a personal connection to it. I had a friend (notice the past tense) for lets call it 10-15 years. Our lockers were next to each other in high school, we both went to URI for undergrad and were roommates junior year. In the years leading up to Trump's election, I started to notice a change in behavior/actions/verbiage. A lot of what they talk about in this video makes a lot of sense in retrospect. I won't say here what he said/did to cause me to cut ties, but I haven't spoken to him in at least five years. Those who continued to speak to him to try to help noticed these wedges being driven, particularly through regurgitated racist rhetoric that further isolated him from members of our community. I eventually had to stop following his wife on social media platforms too as it was full of the same rhetoric.
