I chose this book for Lena because it is a fun book with illustrations that will appeal to her. The book will help her enjoy reading while also finding herself in it and seeing a representation of others who don't look like her. The book is 1-2 grade level, so it will be an easy read for her.

I am choosing this book because it is a mirror that she can view her class in. It teaches about love, friendship, inclusivity, and kindness. Lena loves her family and friends and I think she would enjoy reading about a class and comparing it to her own. I am choosing this book as it discusses complex struggles in a way that can reach and be comprehended for her age. Lena is not familiar with poverty firsthand. The book tells the first-hand point of view of a young girl in poverty and her family's struggles; this will be a window for Lena to see what those in poverty go through. While she can't relate to these struggles she can relate to the main character feeling alone, and can develop an understanding of how devastating living in poverty is.

I selected this book for the praise it received. It is an important read for children because it teaches them about patience and appreciation, something that is a tough concept for kids. This book is a mirror for Lena because she can relate to the impatient feelings that the figurines on the window sill feel and then can relate the story's theme to her own life. I think Lena will enjoy the story because it allows her to be creative and she will find relevance in it.

Lena loves to dance, so I chose this book that she will love. It is a mirror because of her love for dance, but also a window into Indigenous culture. She can take her passion for dance to read about a professional dancer with a unique path that helped her take pride in her Native American heritage. This can teach Lena about other cultures and how dance can represent them.

I chose this book because it teaches important lessons about self-worth and conquering fear. This would be valuable to any young girl finding her place in the world. It discusses issues all girls will go through and how self-worth can be developed, but it is put in language that is relatable to Lena, as the main character is her age.

Lena is in 2nd grade. She loves to talk and hang out with her family and friends. She is passionate about dance, having fun, and spending time with others. She is a good reader but struggles with finding reading boring. I chose some books I think would make her enjoy reading!
