         <description><![CDATA[<div>My main hesitation surrounding this scientific development is that it leaves too much room for discrimination to occur. Being that the current US justice system is still, at its very core, horribly skewed and oppressive, it's practically inevitable that this same system will be passed onto whatever system is controlling the predictive profiling. Leaving the decision of whether or not someone is guilty to a computer that for the most part cannot assess its own bias (humans can barely do this), is a slippery slope. Also, keeping DNA records of people, sets up our society to classify people based on their potential to commit a crime and practically expect them to re-offend. This feeds into pre-existing conceptions of people and what they are "capable" of doing. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I think that this is a good idea if directed in the way that would benefit everyone. In order to avoid discrimination and wrongful conviction, faces of current criminals can be scanned, and then once someone turns 18, their face can be scanned. The scanned faces of the criminal could be used to compare to any suspects in a lineup. The program would not need to convict a criminal, but if there is evidence that a suspect committed the crime, a facial scan saying that they are prone to criminal activitiy could support the conviction.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Have there been any instances of someone being convicted used this data, to later find that they were innocent? And is it worth running the risk of that occurring until it's too late? I think these data bases could prove useful in preventing crime by identifying certain characteristics and trying to counter them early on. But I think that using this system to convict a person would almost always be discriminator, because punishment should be delivered based on what  actions a person has taken, not what actions a person is "more likely" to take.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I think this program should not be implemented as is. This system profiles people based on sex, age, religion, race, etc., which leads to discrimination. Discrimination is already commonplace in FBI profiling, so I believe creating a computer system based off of this is only contributing to the problem. Furthermore, the program has a 11% error rate, which is extremely high if a person is being put into prison for a crime they didn't commit. If this system could have a higher certainty, and use non-discriminatory profiling, I think it should be encouraged to ensure the safety of the population.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I think this system may be good in theory, but if actually implemented it will cause negative things to occur. I agree with the students who have commented already that this will ultimately lead to discrimination because suspected criminals are being profiled based upon their genes. Also, it is strange to think that the government holds a copy of your genome, which can reveal stuff about yourself that you may not even know. I am interested to know who is in charge of monitoring DNA sequences kept by the government. How many people are allowed to see them? DNA contains very personal information. </div>]]></description>
