I believe there is still racism today, but it was more prevalent in the past. Canadians of the past held the attitude that Native Canadians were savages. They felt that their customs were not well suited for the 20th century world. I believe it was just the thoughts of the government that Natives should be assimilated with the rest of society. I believe the government did not want to support the Native Canadians and decided it would be easier to get rid of their culture.
