         <description><![CDATA[<div><a href="http://www.edutopia.org/practice/i-wonder-questions-harnessing-power-inquiry"><strong>"I Wonder" Questions: Harnessing the Power of Inquiry</strong></a></div><div>&nbsp;</div><ul><li>I love the phrase “<em>Encouraging and Harvesting Student Wonders”</em> from this article.&nbsp; I can see the great potential of these wonder journals, especially at the elementary level.&nbsp; Kids at that age are so full of questions!&nbsp; While I think the journals or sticky notes are a great idea, I have such a hard time envisioning this with high school mathematics.&nbsp; The most often used phrase I hear is “When will we ever use this?”&nbsp; I have started to incorporate real world applications wherever I find them, but that to me is not a true “I Wonder” question.&nbsp; How can I inspire my students to start thinking more deeply…?</li></ul><div>&nbsp;</div><ul><li>I like the description of the process that the author lays out:&nbsp;</li></ul><div><em>“As teachers go through the "I Wonder" questions, they ask themselves questions like:</em></div><div>•&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; <em>Where could I go with this?</em></div><div>•&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; <em>How can I tie some of these together?</em></div><div>•&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; <em>How can I make this meaningful for my students?</em></div><div>•&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; <em>What can I teach from this?”&nbsp;</em></div><div>&nbsp;</div><ul><li>I also like the idea of leaving some questions unanswered…&nbsp;</li></ul>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><a href="http://www.edutopia.org/blog/student-centered-learning-starts-with-teacher-john-mccarthy"><strong>Student-Centered Learning: It Starts With the Teacher</strong></a><strong><br></strong><br></div><div>“<em>Student-centered classrooms include students in planning, implementation, and assessments.”</em> &nbsp;</div><ul><li>Great concept– I definitely need to remember to do more of this.&nbsp; It’s so easy to get caught up in “covering” the required material that it’s easy to leave this by the wayside…</li></ul><div>&nbsp;</div><div><em>“Let their interests drive the content that teaches skills and concepts.”</em></div><ul><li>Love this idea; still just don’t know how to do that with upper-level mathematics…</li></ul><div><strong>&nbsp;</strong></div><div><strong>I like how the author of this article compares students’ interest in class to the same thing we look for in teachers’ workshops – engagement and practical application.&nbsp; Otherwise, we mentally or physically check out.</strong></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><a href="http://plppathways.blogspot.com/2016/03/negotiated-curriculum-questions-come.html"><strong>PLP Pathways</strong></a></div><div><strong>&nbsp;</strong></div><div><strong>I think this article clearly lays out the process for inquiry-based learning.&nbsp; I can see that we will probably be following some of this in the next few weeks.&nbsp; I would love to see examples, especially how this could work for high school math.&nbsp; Also, what if my whole school doesn’t “buy-in”?&nbsp; Is there a way I can incorporate just a piece of this into my classroom?</strong></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><a href="http://tiie.w3.uvm.edu/blog/sugaring-stem-and-community-connections/#.V1XNAZMrKNY">S<strong>ugaring &amp; STEM</strong></a></div><div><strong>&nbsp;</strong></div><div><strong>&nbsp;“</strong><strong><em>Students collect data about the different trees they tap. They then use ipads to record the rate at which the sap drips into buckets, and are able to calculate the amount of sap they will bring in. Then they use hydrometers and refractometers to find the sugar content of the sap in the same way that professional operations do. Since they know the target sugar content of the final product, they are able to use ratios to determine how much water they will have to boil off, and predict how much time this will take.”</em></strong></div><div><strong>&nbsp;</strong></div><div><strong>Wow! - do I need to say more?&nbsp; Talk about authentic!&nbsp; I think this would definitely engage a lot of my students.&nbsp; I wonder about a global application – maybe Skyping online with others around the country (or the world!) comparing rates and qualities?&nbsp; Very inspiring…</strong></div>]]></description>
