In this reading, Emerson's main point is to point out the good in man and nature. He is also making a point that we should not stick to the path which society has laid out for us, but instead pave our own path and to follow your own conscience. I feel in today's society we put too much faith in what we are told by our elders and this causes us to blindly follow it. And while a lot of the time, like in school, it's good to listen and believe them, this causes us to also make mistakes and blindly follow elders or peers that aren't telling us the right information or giving the right advice for your own life. Sometimes, I feel that we need to take a step back from what we are constantly told and spend a while pondering on what the actual right decision is for your individual person. An example of this is college. I feel it is preached in schools that you should focus on going to college and keeping your grades up for that reason, but college isn't for everyone and if you don't look at your own life, and the situation that you are living in, then this may lead you down a path that may not suit your own lifestyle. Causing a poor decision that hurts you more than it helps. Life is a highway and branching off of that are many different paths you can take with varying consequences and rewards. The issue with society today is that they want you to follow the main road, but you shouldn't listen, you should go out on your own and find the branch that fits you the best. I believe this is the way to achieve happiness in this twisted world.

I see transcendental values in the movie Secret Life of Walter Mitty through the themes that the movie portrays. The movie is about a character, Walter Mitty, who works a monotonous day job in an office working for Life Magazine. He is unhappy with this lifestyle and his mission to go on an adventure to find happiness and the perfect photo. This shows transcendental values because Walter is closer to nature and its beauties while having a sort of individualism. This journey also takes him away from his everyday life and out of the restraints of society to find the photo of a lifetime.

If I were to go on a journey I may never come home from I would first pack my bags. I would bring with me a phone, a Chromebook, and chargers for both(assuming the journey is to a habit-ed area). I would also make sure I back a basic survival kit. A medical kit, some sort of multitool, changes of clothes, with a heavy focus on socks, because I don't want athletes foot, and finally some shoes for exploring which I could also change if they get wet. If I were to leave like this I would say goodbye to all my immediate family in person along with my closest friends. Everyone I could not see at that time I would facetime and tell them that way. Then I'd be off into the unexplored ready for the adventure ahead.

Guaranteed by Eddie Vedder:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e0RIlo3-0GA

In this song it represents a lot of the transcendentalist values. One of these is non-conformity, "On bended knee is no way to be free." This shows the value of non-conformity because it shows that freedom is not received by following the order or restraints of others. Another value this song shows are individuality. This is shown through the quote "Everyone I come across in cages they bought." This is symbolic of individualism because it shows how being on your own and not within the constraints of society will release you from the cages you get put in when you fall into debt to society. There will always be a weight on your back that you have to pay off and you'll never be completely free.

“If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer” (Thoreau).

This quote to me means that among the people who follow the rules or norms of society, there are also others who don't agree with those rules. They find the answers they are looking for in another path that is not visible to the ones who are brainwashed into thinking there is one way. I find my largest difference from my peers to be in the sport that I play. Soccer is the largest sport globally, but here in America, it falls to number 6. I always feel as if it is not respected even though it is the most beautiful sport in the world. Everything about the game makes me fall in love with it. So much is working all at once in perfect harmony to make this sport what it is. When you play the sport yourself you really get to take it all in. It's a game of passion and desire. In society today, I feel we outcast those who want to do something different than the crowd. I feel this myself because of the stick I get for playing and watching Soccer instead of say football or basketball. I have seen that recently we have been doing better to accept all, but we still have to work on respecting others and what they find to be beautiful.

The poem "The Road Not Taken" signifies your own choice in life and the ability to follow a road that others have not gone down before. A road not taken today is to start your own business. While many have tried, many also fail. To make this choice you are putting your future at a huge risk and relying on one thing to succeed or you fail. This is why most people work for someone instead of being the one worked for. Risks like this could be catastrophic, but if they work then they are the best choices you could make. An example of my road not taken is again with soccer. I found such beauty in the action and I couldn't stop playing it. I knew it was an underappreciated activity but it makes me so happy to play and I am glad that I followed that path because I am in a better place physically and mentally because of it. This choice has changed my life because it gives me something to focus on that will benefit me and gives me a way to get away from all the stress every once in a while.

Thoreau believes in simplicity and from his quote you can derive that he thinks you should keep the amount affairs you have little and the accounts you have just as small. This shows he wants you to make it so that you can count the crucial things in your hand. I believe that you need to take some time off every once in a while to live a happy life. Take a vacation. You need some time away from the screens and the stress to just relax. Close your mind, and explore a little. All these things can reset your brain and it will let you come back to the real world reset and ready to take on the problems with a renewed sense of drive. To simplify my life I believe in minimizing stress and maximizing efficiency. To do this I can get work done early or take a nap through the day to reset my brain. I also like taking a chill run to get outside and have some fresh air. I find that this helps me focus more then almost everything.

This quote stands out to me because it represents what I see in myself. I get all bottled up when I sit inside all day. I feel useless. But, when I go outside and explore the world around me whether, in bike rides, runs, or hikes, my life fills up with so much joy. Also, this resets me and my mood, I come back from these adventures ready to take on whatever is in front of me. I get immense motivation by seeing the beauty of the world. In my own words, this quote is saying that when you go outside and explore the world a childlike part of you comes out and makes you forget the pain that you are suffering. (I know this picture isn't from a walk outside recently but the feeling I had in this picture was perfect for this quote)
