It was a quarter past twelve, and I was thinking about when they would come back. The walls creaked of wood, my feet screamed of fear with every step. This week several power outages were present. I couldn’t tell what was going on. I tried to get some sleep but I couldn’t. The insomnia pressuring me with every tick of the clock. Everyone in the city either fled or went missing. Missing cases were actually quite common at this top of the hour.

Our Lives and the Metaverse

Imagine a world with two realities, one being real, and the other accessible by goggles or glasses. We could be living the same life as Wade Watts from “Ready Player One” with more technicality, which brings us to the topic question.”What do we lose or gain in a world dominated by technology?”. In the story “Ready Player One” the main protagonist Wade Watts is an eighteen year old who lives in poverty at a trailer park.

“I looked at my hands and they weren’t my hands. It was very strange and it took me a few hours to come back to myself.” This text evidence relates to the topic because spending hours on end in a virtual world is unhealthy. People are disconnected from the real world and lost their appreciation for it. The Metaverse may change a person’s mindset and how they think. Everything virtual, purchases, games, even settings and scenes are not real. The connection/disconnection topic relates to this text evidence because people are disconnected from the real world when in Virtual Reality. As features advance, these systems will become more immersive and it will be hard to tell what is real and what is not.

-Most people find escape and relief in the OASIS, a multiplayer online game with thousands of different locations, including games, online shopping, and even a thriving school system. Most people in the world have OASIS accounts, as there are no recurring fees and it offers an escape from the real world. The topic (connection disconnection) relates to this piece of Ready Player One because people in the future, exactly twenty years ahead of us, use an online interactive software called the oasis. This so-called software is made to connect/disconnect from the real world and all of its problems. People would have their own accounts and could shop online, go shopping and play virtual games in a non physical world.

-“Who is it?” she called. Her voice was irritable, for she had been interrupted often since the music began. She knew several thousand people, in certain directions human intercourse had advanced enormously. The topic relates to the text evidence because civilization in this world don’t talk face to face anymore. Instead they use a screen to communicate with locals, lecturers, and family all with the help of the machine. People heavily rely on a machine to do their everyday tasks and they have broken off from each other and can’t move much.

Dear Diary, it's been two years since I have socialized with someone. Anne is always with Peter and I am just jealous. I have no one to talk to and I’m always expected of something by the parents. If I could just run away, break free of this house, and start a new life… Sure Anne is so perfect. She can have a say or… or… fight when something isn’t right. I can’t do that, and I can’t do this any longer. I need someone, someone to talk to, someone other than my books. I just long for our old life, if I could just go back in time and redo everything. It could all be normal. When we get out of here, if we ever do, all the things I’ve always wanted to do. All I want is some time with some new people in a new life, that’s all I could wish for…

The year was 2056, robotic birds and drones whipped through the air. Nature harmonized with advanced intelligence together as one. One did all the work, while the other watched over lazily, uncomfortably seeing what would happen next. This was promised, the desired way of human life on earth in this year. As people count the days, robots would count the months. No more accidents nor emotions at this time. No sadness or weeping. No hapiness or joy. Just metal, articulating, moving, back to back. Every advanced piece of tin was crafted in a factory, a factory of waste. As more robots were created, more climate change and melting, changing temperatures permanently. More robots meant less humans and by the next few years, caps were gone. With water levels rising, even the most advanced robots wouldn’t have a chance to save this earth with global warming at its pace. Most of the world has been explored

Dear Diary,

I just arrived at the secret Annex. I’m not used to living with people, eight people for that matter. I have an obnoxious roommate, Anne. She is the daughter of a man I knew, Otto Frank. She is always loud and I have to quiet her down. Anne has also been experiencing nightmares about the holocaust. She is going to have our necks hanged. She has been having traumatizing dreams. I don’t know if my stories are helping, as a friend of hers was just taken away in her hometown in Germany. Nobody else was going to tell the truth about all the months that have gone by.
