<title>Force summation:When performing a forehand in tennis accuracy and force/power is needed to perform the shot to the best of your ability. Force summation is the combination of forces produced by different parts of the human body such as muscles, bones and joints. There are four main principles of force summation that you need to be able to achieve in a tennis forehand to be a top athlete in tennis. The first principle of force summation is, use as many body parts related to the skill as possible, eg. (Muscles). So when you are hitting a tennis forehand you should be using your bigger muscles and leading with your smaller muscles to hit powerful forehands. The second principle of force summation is correct sequencing, this idea is related to the first principle, of using as many muscles you can to achieve lots of force and play to your best, however, to take it a step further you would need to be using the muscles in a correct order. In a tennis forehand, the correct muscle sequencing would be from your bigger muscles like your quads to your smaller muscles like you bicep and tricep. To achieve the best result possible the correct muscle sequence for the dominant side of my body in my forehand tennis shot , would be from the, quads contracting moving through the execution phase, with the glutes supporting this movement with extension at the hip. Then when your body is rotating through the shot your abdominals, obliques, pectorals, and deltoid would sequentially move next. Then finally the tricep, and wrist flexors would finish the powerful tennis forehand movement. The reason why our bigger muscles start and lead the sequence is because bigger muscles take longer to contract than smaller muscles because they have bigger and longer muscle fibres, so this means they lead the movement with a lot of force. The third principle of force summation is, correct timing, this means to get the best result possible, your muscles have to be in sequence and in time with the whole action, if I fire my muscles too early or late I will not get the maximum amount of force summation I need. For example, in a forehand shot in tennis, if you used your muscles to late in the forehand you would not have the maximum amount of power and force when you make contact with the hockey ball. The fourth and final principle of force summation is getting my muscles to go through the greatest range of movement. If this doesn’t happen my muscles would be doing random things in random moments of the skill, so to get the best results, my muscles have to be in time and in the right sequence to perform my skill to the very best, and in my case, this is the forehand in tennis.Overall, however, these principles wouldn’t be relevant if I was unstable or off-balanced during the forehand shot in tennis, this is because if I wasn’t balanced other muscles would be trying to re balance me in my shot and then these muscles aren’t focusing on the execution of the powerful forehand, so we lose power and force to the movement. Meaning it is important I am balanced and stable so I can apply maximum force and acceleration to the tennis ball itself when performing a forehand in tennis. Significantly when performing a forehand in tennis I need a lot of force and acceleration to place the ball in a tricky spot with a lot of power so my opponent loses the point. And the 4 principles of force summation combined with the aspect of using these 4 principles whilst being stable and balanced, ensure that I can perform the forehand to the best of our ability where it is very powerful and accurate at the same time. </title>

Force summation:When performing a forehand in tennis accuracy and force/power is needed to perform the shot to the best of your ability.
Force summation:When performing a forehand in tennis accuracy and force/power is needed to perform the shot to the best of your ability.
