I agree, people don't want to be themselves anymore. The world has adopted to like-ism, meaning trying to be like everyone else. I feel my heroes are the people that change systems and that make new pathways out of small openings. I think of my mom and dad as heroes; I think of my boys as heroes; I think of my students and their families as heroes for sending their children into sometimes terrible situations in school buildings. I say animals more because animals can’t communicate like humans can. But they sure can love you more than a human can. I believe that a hero is someone that puts aside their pride and ego to help others. I have never met a person I consider heroic, but one day I will. 
The one person I consider heroic was assassinated years ago, and that person is Malcom X.
Malcom X stood up to racism and discrimination in a society full of racists and system that was built to cause distruction to his community. Despite all the traumatic things he went through in his childhood. He fought for the future of African Americans in this country.
